Summary: A one shot about Kimberly. Before going to the barbeque with Brian and Officer Burke, Kimberly has a strange, prophetic dream…

If Dreams Could Kill

Kimberly looked around, suddenly confused. Where was she? Hadn't she just been in bed a minute ago?

She was standing in a field, and she had no idea where she was. Just then Kimberly heard shouting. The voices sounded familiar, and they seemed to be shouting her name…

Kimberly started running in the direction of the shouting, trying to get closer to the voices. Suddenly she found herself standing in the yard outside of an unfamiliar house. Where was she?

"Kimberly!" cried the voices. She turned on her heel. Officer Burke was standing there, saying her name, and standing next to him was Brian, that kid Rory had saved that day several months ago. "Kimberly!" they shouted. Kimberly ran up to them, relieved to see some familiar faces. Standing behind Burke and Brian were two older adults…Brian's parents?

"Welcome to the barbeque," said Brian's mom warmly, smiling at Kimberly. Then Kimberly realized where she was…she was at the barbeque she had been invited to. She sighed with relief at finally knowing what was going on.

The five gathered around the picnic table outside. They dug into their food and began talking like old friends.

Then Brian stood up to go get seconds from the grill. As he started walking Kimberly felt lightheaded. She stood up. Something was going on, but she didn't know what…

"Brian!" Kimberly tried to shout, but no sound came out. How come she suddenly couldn't talk? She kept trying to say Brian's name, but all that came out was a hoarse squeak. Brian ignored her, and opened the lid of the grill…

Only to have it explode.

The last thing Kimberly saw and heard was Brian's arm, the last remaining piece of him, land on his mother's plate. Her scream pierced the air…

Kimberly sat up in bed, breathing hard. "Oh," she murmured, putting her hand to her forehead. "It was just a dream…" Her face was sweaty. It had been quite a dream. Kimberly's legs were entangled in her sheets.

Just then Kimberly's alarm went off. She reached over and slapped it off, slowly climbing out of bed. That dream was eerie, but she needed to get ready for the day.

After all, she had a barbeque to go to.
