Tantalizing
She was stunning. I just know that she fell from the heavens. No one could have made such a beauty other than the superiors of our world. Her eyes, those captivating orbs of silvery blue, captured your own and drowned you.
I stared openly at Laurie Bathurst. It was the winter ball before we were to leave for Christmas holidays. Oh but perfect Laurie couldn't like me the way I liked her. Oh no, she couldn't like the polite yet mysterious Tom Riddle. No, he was too poor, too polite, too much of a teacher's pet. Everyone knew that she liked the rebellious type; the Lestrange or Malfoy.
Yet here she was today, alone. Of course she must have had offers, hundreds probably. Oh, she turned them down though. Probably has a more handsome, older male out there. A guy who probably doesn't know how lucky he really is.
I've had a good amount of time to look at her. She was dressed sensibly yet eye capturing as always. She was wearing a slightly crumpled looking maroon dress. It had one plain sash across one shoulder, and it flowed out at the end, leaving a trail behind her. I took one last swig of my punch and decided 'What the hell?' I had to speak to her at one point or the other.
I made my way towards her. I could now see the exact shade of red lipstick she was wearing, the thickness of her eyeliner, the strands of brunette curls that escaped from her up do. Oh shit. She's spotted me. Ahem, be a man Tom. She won't bite…well not that you'd mind, but anyway.
"Laurie, you look lovely." Oh this was stupid. How the hell do I know if she even knows my name? She's probably thinking, what's this idiot doing?
But she smiled that dazzling smile of hers, showed a few teeth and said, "Hello Tom. And thank you. Are you here alone tonight?"
She knows my name! "Well actually yes I am. Well you know me." Great, that sounds as if I don't want someone to go with me. "And you?"
"Oh well you know. I …um…well the thing…" she trailed off. I had never seen her nervous. I wondered why. Had she asked someone and got rejected. She's looking down at her golden heels.
"Oh, well I see." Now or never. "Say Laurie?" She looked up. "Would you like to dance?" Stupid, stupid Tom.
She seemed dumbfounded. "Really?"
"Well, I mean only if you want." Well don't I sound articulate?
"Yes! Oh my gosh Tom, I would love to. See the thing is I was kind of hoping you would ask me. But I mean you and your brains; I didn't think you would want to even talk to me."
Holy mother of fucking god.
