I think it was a little after 11:00 at night. The stars were shining so bright around a full moon; absolutely breath-taking! There was a warm breeze, slipping through the trees and dancing around, animating flower petals making them sway to unheard music. And the best part of this magical scene was the boy sitting next to me. He had been my best friend since I first solved the Millennium Puzzle. Recently, I've grown feelings for him - not that I haven't always cared about him - but this was more...I couldn't explain it! He and I spent so much time together, some people thought it strange that we weren't already dating. I never thought much of it until then.
"Tonight's a beautiful night." he said. "The moon is so big and bright. I've never seen anything like it." Then he looked over at me with his vivid, purple colored eyes. "Am I right?" He asked.
I didn't realize I was staring at him. "Yeah, you- uh... the sky looks amazing!" I sighed, knowing he'd probably caught that.
"What?" He looked at me, his brow, furrowed.
"Nothing," I replied quickly. "I...I just..." but I couldn't say it. What if he didn't like me back?
"You just what?" He raised an eyebrow quizzically.
"W-Well...I kind of like you. A lot. A whole lot, and that's all I can think about." I held my breath, waiting for his disapproval, but what came next caught me completely off guard. He kissed me, not a quick kiss, but a real kiss! His lips crashed into mine with a passion, like it was his only kiss. His lips were soft and firm at the same time. The wind picked up around us and waves of petals swirled and danced frantically to the beating of my heart, which would have stopped if it went any faster. My limbs were numb; I couldn't feel anything besides his touch.
Then he pulled away and smiled. "I like you a lot too." His smile wasn't his usual half-smile or smirk. It was a real smile filled with admiration. Then he said, "Would you like to go out sometime?"
I was so stunned that I forgot how to talk. My mind was screaming YES! OF COURSE! I LOVE YOU! He reached out and touched my cheek, with his smooth, warm hand. "Are you OK?" He asked, looking at me, concerned.
His touch jolted me back to reality. "Oh! Yes! Of course I will!" I smiled to assure him that I was alright.
"Great!" He said, and a wide grin spread across his face. Then it started to drizzle. He looked up and said, "The perfect night." He leaned over to kiss me again, even though my heart just found a steady speed. My heartbeat rocketed up once again, and I actually made an effort to kiss him back this time. I wish time could have frozen in that moment forever. It truly was the perfect night...
