A/N – I've been dabbling a lot lately with new story ideas and will hopefully have a few new stories up soon, this being one of them. I hope you like it! :D

Tangled Up In You

Prologue
Claire's POV

"Aunt Emily?" I asked again.

"Yes," mom huffed, clearly annoyed with my persistence. "And your Uncle Sam."

"What about Carly?"

"You already know, Claire."

I sighed in defeat. The truth was, I did know. I knew everything that was happening except why. Mom had been pretty quick to act when my dad's sister, Emily, called a week ago. If I was honest, no one had really mentioned Aunt Emily whilst I was growing up. It seemed as though it was a taboo subject but I couldn't understand why, especially when they were so ready to just pack me up and send me away to her.

Apparently, said Aunt had missed her niece and wanted to spend some quality time with her. With me. I, however, didn't get a choice in the matter it seemed. They didn't take into consideration that maybe I was happy enough to spend the duration of my summer here, in New York, with my all my friends. Nope, my parents just sat me down and insisted that I go to La Push, Washington. A place I'd heard of in passing but never in much detail. They said that I had lived near their once, on the Makah reservation until my dad got a job promotion and we moved to New York. I can't say I remember much of my time there.

"So Carly gets to stay with her friends in Texas while I'm being sent off to live with some total strangers for the summer?" I clarified. I'd been a total bitch since I found out and I wasn't going without a fight. It was unfair. I'd never been one for change and my dad even told me when we moved I'd caused a lot of mayhem – which I totally imagined since I wasn't the reserved type. I wasn't quiet and it wasn't unusual for me to speak my mind, no matter whose feelings I may hurt in the process. At least I felt bad after.

"It's not like that; Carly is legally an adult now. You, however, are only sixteen and nowhere near old enough to stay here by yourself," dad said as he walked into the kitchen. His voice was much firmer than moms and his expression was just daring me to argue. Mom and dad had taken the opportunity to go on a second honeymoon. Well, technically it was their first since they never really had the chance to go anywhere extravagant and of course, they had to take Carly with them since she was only several months old when it took place.

I sighed dramatically. "It's unfair, dad! I don't want to go to the other side of the country with people I don't know." I gave him my signature puppy dog eyes. They always worked, I couldn't remember a time when they didn't, but it seemed he was expecting this. He refused to make eye contact as his eyes searched the room fervently for something to focus on.

"They're not strangers, sweetie," dad said, his voice much softer. "You'll be surrounded by family in La Push. Emily is my younger sister and then there are my cousins, Leah and Seth. Everything will be fine." With that he left the room with a kiss of my forehead and I realized I wouldn't win. La Push, here I come.

A/N - And voila, we have the prologue.

Tell me what you think, be as harsh as you like. I can take it.
