"What are you doing here?"
"I missed you. Do you mind?"
"Of course not! But my relatives are everywhere – I don't want any of my uncles running you out of the village if they catch us."
"Catch us doing what? We're just talking."
"And holding hands."
"Where's the harm in that? Rose, we're taking this as slow as we possibly can. Even if someone does see us, we haven't done anything wrong."
"We've been keeping it a secret. That makes me feel nervous."
"Only because we don't know how our parents will react."
"My dad won't like it."
"He'll come around eventually, sweetheart. I'm serious, Rose, look at me. I promise you that I'll do everything in my power to make sure we can be together. I'll wait. I'll stay away until your seventeenth birthday, if I have to. Then you can make your decision as an adult and nobody can stop you."
"Isn't this too soon to feel so strongly? My brain is telling me I'm crazy!"
"You're brain also tells you to write an extra five feet for every essay you hand up, that doesn't mean you should listen! Look at Teddy and Victoire. They knew at seventeen. Fred and Maggie probably do too."
"But I'm not going to be sixteen for another two months!"
"Well, you've got far more maturity than most seventh years, all the same."
"I don't know… Did you get a reply yet?"
"Yes. It's scheduled for next week."
"And if it goes well…?"
"I'm going to say yes. Rosie, I know what you're thinking, but it's better than losing you altogether. I couldn't cope with that."
"It will be so hard to see you and pretend that you're just another friend."
"You can do it, sweetheart. It will be worth the wait, won't it?"
"Of course. Of course it will! But are you sure you don't mind?"
"Mind what? That we won't be official? A bit, I suppose. But we'll still have fun, eh? Besides, who knows how you'll feel in three years? You might want to run away and take on the world, rather than settle down."
"I can take on the world from here, I think! Now all I have to is think of heaps of reasons to see you in between classes – three years worth! I will though, I promise."
"I believe you! I was thinking we could –"
"Shh! Shh, hide!"
"Argh, Rose! Watch my head! What're you –"
"Be quiet, it's my Uncle Charlie!"
"Who?"
"The dragon keeper, I told you about him before. He's with my brother and they're coming this way!"
"Hugo and I get on great, don't worry! Actually, I didn't tell you this yet, but last year I started helping him –"
"Oh, please shut up! I'm sorry, but if they notice you…!"
"Alright, alright! No need to get upset, sweetheart. I'll hop the fence and write to you in the morning, yeah? Will you be here, still?"
"No, I should be home by then. Please be careful!"
"I love when you worry about my safety."
"I'm worrying about you making a scene and bringing the whole wedding party out to watch, actually."
"Where's the love, Rosebud? I'm heartbroken!"
"Oh, stop messing and go! If you keep clutching your chest like that, you'll never get the creases out of your robes…"
"How can you just send me away like this, as though I mean nothing –!"
"Go! I can't start missing you until you're gone, can I?"
"I expect a four-page letter to make up for this brutal treatment!"
"I always write you four-page letters, though."
"Then I want a drawing too. Really girly stuff. You and me by the lake at sunset. And the Giant Squid in the background, making heart shapes with his tentacles."
"I can't draw anything and I'm not particularly girly…"
"You drew me that Quaffle once. On my League chart."
"That was supposed to be a Puffskein!"
"Er, right. I was only joking about the, um…"
"Just go, quickly!"
"Love you. See you in Diagon Alley next week?"
"You too, see you then!"
"Parting is such sweet –"
"GO!"
