Chapter One
"Alex, Jimmy, DK!" ordered Lieutenant Johnson "Go vent the upper floors!" Just before entering, Alex glanced up at the three story building and sighed, god I love my job.
"You two go left, I'll go right and we'll meet back here and go upstairs", shouted Jimmy through his mask.
"We should stay together, there are only three of us", answered DK
"The time it takes to stand here and argue about it is longer we have to be in here, now GO LEFT" Jimmy yelled.
DK just waved him off and went left with Alex following close behind. She turned just in time to see Jimmy's form disappear in the smoke. Taking her ax, Alex swung at a window, smashing it. A shard of glass bounced off her visor and she blinked. I wonder what's bugging Jimmy, smash. Maybe it has something to do with Kim or Joey, smash. I should ask him about it later, smash.
later that night...
Alex rolled over in her cot and glared spitefully at DK. How was she supposed to get any sleep? How did his wife keep her sanity? How did someone snore so loudly and not wake themselves up? Realizing that these questions were pointless at 2:30 in the morning, she sighed heavily and swung her legs over the side of the cot.
"Where you goin' sweetie?" Billy whispered laughingly
"Downstairs, DK's drivin' me crazy", Alex answered easily "and I'm not your sweetie, I'm your sugar lips".
A rumbling laughter emerged from the dark, on the far side of the room. "Why don't you two just hook up already?" questioned Jimmy
"Because my wife would hand me my dick on a stick, that's why. Now why don't you come downstairs with us and have some of Doc's chili?"
"At 2:30 in the morning?" questioned Jimmy
"You mean there's a better time to have chili?" Alex questioned, turning toward the stairs.
the next day...
"Yo, Alex, You workin' today?" yelled DK
"No, for the next two glorious days I don't have to listen to your snoring."
"Alex, Alex, Alex" DK soothed, "Some back up here guys, tell this little lady that I have never snored a night in my life."
The sly grins and silence seemed to speak volumes to Dk who just shrugged it off with a laugh, walking down the stairs towards the street.
"So, what are your plans for today, Alex?" Jimmy asked, "Dazzle us with your exciting plans"
"That, my dears, is for me to know and you girls to gossip about" Alex snorted as she too made her way out of the firehouse.
She had come to this house over two years ago and at first the situation was tense to say the least. Alex smiled to herself as she unlocked her jeep, now though, she knew that they accepted her as one of their own. She really was exactly where she wanted to be doing what she loved. As she started the engine and pulled away from the curb, she turned and glanced back at the firehouse, today is going to be such a great day.
