Thanks for proofing it for me. I don't own anything and the lyrics are to Feels Like Today by Rascall Flatts.
I woke up this
morning
With this feeling inside me, that I can't explain
Like
a weight that I've carried, been carried away, away
But I know
something is coming
I don't know what it is
But I know it's
amazing, can save me my time is coming
I'll find my way out
Of
this longest drought
Martha woke up that morning just like she had every other morning. She turned over and saw the empty spot beside her and knew Jonathan was already outside doing the morning chores. That was the steadiness of the farm, there was always some work to be done. It kept her from thinking about the one thing she desperately wanted but could not have.
But this morning was different; she didn't know what it was yet. It was like a faint scent that just tickles your noise but can't figure out what it is. There was definitely something different to the feel of the day. It was almost as if the silent burden that she had been carrying had been lifted off of her. She shook her head, she couldn't think like that. She knew it was just wistful thinking and nothing would come of it. She got up and began her day but the feeling stayed with her.
As she prepared breakfast her mind kept wandering back to her one wish that couldn't be fulfilled. It wasn't that she wasn't content with her life. She loved Jonathan more than anything and loved working the farm, but there was still that occasional ache when just the two of them would sit down at the dining room table alone. Then she saw it and smiled a little face looking up at her with big blue eyes.
She as still smiling when Jonathan came in from the chores. "What's got you in such a good mood today?"
She turned to face him. "I just think something special is going to happen today."
"Oh, really," Jonathan said with a twinkle in eye and a mischievously raised eyebrow.
"Oh, Jonathan" Martha giggled. "Behave."
That afternoon they headed to town to run some errands and to get the flowers she had wanted. On there way back to the farm the feeling that she had had all day had now become so strong that she knew something was about to happen that was going to change their lives. Suddenly she looked up and saw that the sky was spewing fire down on them, she screamed and then everything went black. The next thing she remembered she slowly opened her eyes and found that she was hanging upside down in the truck.
She then heard Jonathan call her name and she looked around and that is when she saw it. The image in her dreams, her one wish fulfilled. She knew that Jonathan would want to try and find his parents, but she knew that he already had. After some wrangling, she managed to get out of the truck and she got a red blanket to wrap the child up in. As soon as she held him, she knew she was right and the empty spot inside of her was gone.
And it feels like
today, I know
Feels like today, I'm sure
It's the one thing
that's missing
The one thing you're wishing
The last sacred
blessing and hey
Feels like today
Feels like today
