Hello everyone, I'm new to fanfiction. Prideshipping is my OTP. I decided to give it a try, the chapters will get longer, this is just a taste. feedback would be much appreciated.
I don't own Yugioh, if I did prideshipping would be canon.
Chapter one: reunited and it feels so... Bad?
Yugi grabbed his bag out of the car and walked to the trunk before pausing to wait on his "cousin." Yami seems to be taking forever, Yugi understood though. It was the first day back after the holidays and Yugi knew Yami was both hoping to and dreading running into kaiba.
Yugi couldnt even count how many times yami and kaiba had broken up. When Yami and Kaiba first got together Yugi had been worried but overtime he came to accept it. It wasn't worry anymore, it had turned to weariness after the third break up.
The whole group knew it was an unhealthy relationship, it was nothing against either of them, they just seemed to clash. They were rivals first and its a deep brand. Their pride didn't help matters. It seemed to be a constant cycle of fight and make up. At the same time Yugi knew they loved each other, he could see it in every interaction even if it wasn't always obvious.
Yugi and Yami joined their friends at a picnic table and exchanged their schedules to see who had classes together. A thump sound broke off their discussions, Kaiba stood silently arms crossed waiting for Yami to say something. Yami clenched his jaw refusing to make the first move and instead studied his ex boyfriend with a blank mask.
"I'm returning the things you've left at my house." Kaiba said guestering to the box he dropped on the table. Yami made himself look seeing not just his things but trinkets from their time together, their memories.
"I don't want them." Yami replied standing and crossing his arms over his chest. Taking the box would mean admitting it was over.
"Take them." Kaiba said narrowing his eyes at the refusal, he didn't want to create a scene but returning Yami's things in a neutral setting was the safest way get the cutting memories out of his house and as they say out of sight, out of mind... right.
"No." Yami replied knowing he was being childish but he's couldn't help but want Seto to remember him at least a little.
"Then they'll sit here on the table." Kaiba answered refusing to give in and take the box home.
Yami shrugged in response but frowned inwardly knowing it was only driving them further apart. Neither could afford to give in, neither wanted to be left holding a box of broken memories.
"I don't have time for this Yami." Seto finally snapped.
"You never have time for anything!" Yami said his eyes narrowing.
"You were made aware when it began." Seto replied, instantly wishing for a rewind button. Seto told himself to walk away but he couldn't seem to make his legs cooperate, Yami's slight intake of breath and widening crimson eyes fixed him in place.
"It." Yami repeated. The hurt look was gone in an instant and Yami laughed humorlessly.
"Just take the box." Seto said feeling drained.
"Throw it away of you don't want it." Yami replied. It was both a challenge and a test. Just like a duel he laid his trap waiting to see if his rival would activate it or negate it.
Seto stood silently fighting himself. He could feel the rivalry flare up demanding he accept and defeat the implied challenge. His pride screamed for him to pick up the box and throw it in the trash, to win this round. His logical mind raced through the potential consequences, but as he stared at Yami's carefully neutral gaze he wondered if it would be worth winning this time.
