Jennifer Mapplethorpe looked up from her paperwork to the site of Homicides brightest young minds engaged in a deadly serious match of scissors paper rock.
"Ha-ha!" exclaimed Simon triumphantly, throwing a fist up in the air after smashing Duncan's poor paper hand with a solid rock victory.
"Come on" complained the dark headed man, leaning back against his chair to look at the third man for support.
"Of course he's going to win if he waits five bloody seconds after I've moved" complained the detective further, throwing a hand up in the air as Matt laughed at the pained look on his face.
"Just face it Dunny, I smashed ya" teased Simon, grinning at his friend before leaning back to swing in his chair.
"Best of three?" questioned Matt, looking between the two men to see if they would rise to the challenge. He felt like the child you might see egging the others into doing the dirty work and quite frankly that was fine by him. He crossed his arms in anticipation, smirking as Duncan leaned forward immediately, eyeing his rival suspiciously before calling out to him.
"You afraid I'm going to beat you Joiner?" he challenged further, throwing the young man a look as his chair swerved to a halt, facing his opponent across the desk.
"Oh you have no idea what you're in for" shot back Simon, raising an eyebrow in mock warning before rolling up his sleeves, leaning across the desk which had been cleared of paperwork earlier so that Duncan couldn't escape his eye sight.
The two men eyed each other as Matt sent Jen a look across the room, smiling as she shook her head in amazement at the five year olds that had dumped all their work for the day on her, hours earlier.
"Scissors, paper, rock" they called loudly and off key, drawing a few wary glances from passers by.
"Take that" shouted Simon gleefully, throwing both arms in the air before looking around the room, trying to call upon some supporters as he executed another snipping victory over Duncan.
"Come on people" he called before looking back at Matt, nodding at him for affirmation as to his conquest before jumping up in victory.
"Thought it was best of Three" complained Duncan immediately, shooting Matt a pleading look of disbelief which only proved to send the man into waves of laughter.
He fleetingly tried to apologise between bursts as Duncan glared at him grumpily, all three men finally settling back in their seats as the game died down.
"I still say I won" mumbled the brooding detective, spinning around to face his desk and away from a triumphant Simon.
"You ladies finished playing?" asked an expectant voice from behind causing all three men to turn slowly to face an unimpressed Jennifer. With her arms crossed, eye brows raised and foot tapping she truly did look like she was going to hit them, and if it hadn't been for Matt sending her an apologetic grin the three men had no doubt that she would have.
"Sorry" coughed Simon, avoiding her gaze like the plague as Duncan tried to busy himself with paperwork and Matt continue to smile at her, wondering if that alone would exempt him from her anger.
She shook her head in annoyance before looking back up at three men, smiling briefly as she asked them the question that had started the whole scissors paper rock tournament in the first place.
"Decided who's telling Wolfy you smashed the car into a tree yet?" she asked sweetly, watching all three heads turn towards each other.
Duncan and Simon shared a look before smiling slowly and calling out in unison,
"Matt!"
