Far from where we were

"I miss you so much. I can't wait to see you tomorrow. I love you."

Brooke hung up and looked at the picture on her phone. It was one of her and Julian hugging and smiling. Brooke couldn't believe how lucky she was. Julian was amazing and they loved each other so much. Those two years since they first got together have been the happiest in her life. It looked like she had finally found the right one for her.

Brooke went upstairs to get something from the closet. When she was looking for it, she saw some albums she has forgotten were there. She picked them and sat on the bed. The first one was of her and Peyton. Brooke was looking at the pictures and remembered the great times the two of them had. She missed her best friend like crazy. It was more than an years since she, Lucas and Sawyer moved to New Zealand to be with Karen, Andy and Lilly. Brooke and Peyton talked on the phone often and wrote emails every day and they knew everything about their lives. But still it was not the same. Brooke was glad Peyton was happy, but she missed the girl talks they had, shopping together, hanging out.

After she finished with this album, Brooke looked at the other one. This one she hasn't opened since high school. It was of her and Lucas. Brooke knew there was no point of going back in those memories, but she still opened it and started looking at the pictures. The photos they took in the cabin in their junior year, those from Nathan and Haley's wedding, the one she took on the beach and many many more. Brooke closed her eyes. She remembered some of the moments she and Lucas shared: their first date and their first kiss, the night she told him that for the very first time she cares about someone and he told her he cared about her too, the walk they had the night of his accident, the night he found her on the beach and told all those thing that gave her courage, the night he helped her with the campaign, when he told her she could stay at his house, the kiss and his words before she left, the first kiss they shared after she came back from California, her locker that he pimped, the night she gave him the letters and they said 'I love you' to each other for the first time, when he told her she was the biggest part of his world, the rain speech and the way they made love after that, the night they promised to rescue each other, the weekend in Rachel's house, the dance and the kiss at Nathan and Haley's wedding, the night in NY… Everything was still there, in her memory. Brooke loved Julian, she was completely in love with him and he was the one. She knew it. But a part of her mind and of her heart never stopped wondering what could have been if she didn't break up with him back in their senior year: would she and Lucas had their happy ending, would they have those two boys and a girl, would he be the guy for her? Brooke could never know. It was not meant to be. It was more than clear now. Both Brooke and Lucas have found the person for them: she has found Julian, and he and Peyton finally got their happily ever after. And they were all happy. But every now and then Brooke Davis was wondering why was Lucas Scott so sure when he said he was the guy for her and why that shot Rachel told her about went in.

Brooke closed the album and smiled. Those were nice days they had. Sure they were.
