"Get the fuck out of here you damn monkey!" papers came flying out of the door as Goku scrambled out of a furious monk's room. He sighed, he was consumed by boredom and Sanzo was being no fun as usual. Perhaps Hakkai might spark some color into his gray day.
Hakkai sat perfectly erect while appearing completely comfortable in the chair as he read. Goku was puzzled by how proper yet casual Hakkai was. Goku placed his folded arms on the spine of the chair behind Hakkai and curiously questioned what he was reading.
"Nothing special." he replied. "Something I've read numerous times over the years."
"What? You read it more than once? Don't you get bored? You already knows what happens! Where's the fun in reading it over and over again if you're not going to be excited or surprised by anything?"
Hakkai let out a pleasant laugh. "I manage to find something interesting each different read. Whether it applies to my life or something I never curiously observed the previous times I read the book."
Goku tilted his head to the side and looked up as he digested Hakkai's words. He didn't get it. Why was Hakkai so confusing? Maybe it was just an adult thing he hadn't yet understood. But Gojyo was an adult and there was nothing about that kappa that worked his brain. Of course, Gojyo was just a giant baby. He shouldn't be categorized as an adult alongside Hakkai.
Goku beamed at his absolute genius thus feeling more like an adult; more like Hakkai.
Hakkai smiled back assuming Goku had understood his reasoning for rereading novels.
"Hakkai, I wanna be old like you! But I don't really like reading, so instead I'll write you an amazing story so you don't have to read the same thing all over again!" he leaped up from leaning on the chair and bounced towards the door.
Hakkai put a hand out in a lame attempt to stop the already departed joyful monkey. "Ah... That wasn't my point at all really..." Hakkai released a long sigh and returned to reading his book clearly distracted now. "Am I really old..."

A few hours later, Goku gathered all the members of the Sanzo-ikkou into the room where Hakkai was previously reading.
"Ladies and gentleman!"
"You're the only lady I see here," Gojyo remarked.
"Shut up! Fine then, kappas and gentlemen!" before Gojyo could make another smart remark, Hakkai elbowed him a bit telling him to be polite to Goku. Gojyo huffed and continued listening without any interruptions. "I present to you 'The Caterpillar and The Maggot' by Son Goku!"
"How original," Gojyo just could not hold in the sarcasm.
Goku gave him a look but refused to respond. He was definitely more of an adult than that lecherous pervert and he was intent on proving it by not getting provoked by his childish statements. Hakkai and Sanzo will be so proud of him and treat him like an old person then he can finally begin to understand them.
"Anyway, once upon a time..."
