The morning mist awakes rue and tells her its time to move on. Get up. She says. Jun opens his eyes and yawns. They begin to start walking on the trail to the capital. About 2 days has passed and Jun and rue get closer to the capital step by step. How far are we? Asks jun. rue pulls out the map. About 3 miles left. She says. Alright lets go. Says jun but before they even begin to walk an arrow flings right at jun but misses. Rue examines the arrow. Peacekeepers! She yells. Run! Jun yells back. They begin to run as fast as they can. Rue and jun hide behind a giant tree. Huff I think there gone. says rue. Rue begins to walk out into the open. Zip! A tranquilizer dart go's straight into rues neck. RUE! Jun yells. Then before he can help a dart go's into his neck as well. Jun falls to the ground and blacks out. Jun opens his eyes to find his hands and legs in chains then looks over to his side to find rue in chains as well. Oh god. he says. Rue. Says jun. rue! He calls. Rue awakes and gasps. W-what happened? Asked rue. We were ambushed. Says jun. rue looks at her chains and begins to think. These chains are made from district 12. Says rue. Yeah so? Says jun. so they're weakness is heat. Says rue. Rue begins to rub her chains on the metal bars. Within moments her chains break. Jun starts to do the same with his and they break as well. Rue looks at the bars and thinks. The bars should be made of the same metal she takes the broken chains and rubs them against the bars then she stops takes a deep breath and BAM! Punches the bars and makes a big hole in the bars. Jun looks in astonishment and in interest. Rue and jun run down a long hallway until they are stopped by a intercom starting to speak. All personnel please head towards the main gate for the execution. What? Says jun. how long were we knocked out? Rue and jun run towards the main gate but are stopped to see in a cell rues mother katniss locked up tight. MOTHER! Rue yells. Katniss looks up to see her daughter. RUE! She yells. Rue takes her old chains and rubs them against the bars then breaks them as she did with hers she runs to her mother and hugs her she starts to break her mothers chains. What are you doing here? Says katniss. We came to save you and dad. Says rue. Katniss looks over to jun. oh hello jun. says katniss. Hello Mrs. Mellark. Says jun. the three of them begin to run towards the main gate when rue sees her bow and a few arrows she picks them up and starts to run. Once they get to the main gate they see gale, peeta, and haymitch in chains. Rue examines the stage and sees a man in a suit with big puffy lips. Snow! Says katniss. What is he doing here? He must have been pulled out of retirement to be the president again. Katniss scowls. Snow walks up to the stand. Let the execution begin. The crowd cheers as haymitch walks over to the stand a peace keeper walks over to him putting a gun to his head. Rue puts an arrow in her bow and pulls the string aiming for the peacekeeper. Haymitch looks in the crowd and sees rue aiming. He shakes his head lightly at her. Rue lowers her bow. What is he doing? She says. Any last words? Says snow. Haymitch looks over at snow in disgust and spits in his face. Snow wipes it off then steps back and in a instant the bullet enters haymitchs brain. END OF BOOK 1
