The Beldam's Song
Oh, my Dearest Coraline,
I long for you to stay
To live in quiet happiness
And for you and me to play — games
I built this brand new world for you
Filled to the top with love
Replaced all your old boring things
With copies that go above — expectations
Oh, my twitchy witchy girl,
I worked so hard for you.
I made this world for you alone
So much for you to do — here
I only ask in return
For a simple "yes," oh my,
That I may make you better
With a pair of button eyes — painless
We'd be a happy family
Our mere presence would suffice.
And I'd love you like my very own...
(Though to eat you would be nice. — I win)
I saw Coraline on Friday, and was totally blown away. It really was one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. Being a fan of the book, I obviously couldn't help notice the changes (and there are a few major ones), but there was nothing I was unhappy with!
Anyway, this poem grew in my head over the past few days. For some reason or another, I love the character design for the Other Mother, so I wrote this for her.
Sorry, long Note. Hope you enjoyed my poem.
PS--- The words after the dashes don't make a sentence; I'm no Ellen Hopkins! I just liked how the song Coraline sang had extra words at the end of verses.
