Again! Yelled haymitch as rue tried once again to throw a knife at a target but misses. Rue huffs as she tries again and again to hit the target. You will never survive if you don't know how to throw a knife right! Says haymitch. Rue stares at him in a dumbfound way. Are you kidding me? She says. Is this necessary? Oh god. Says haymitch. You are really nothing like your mother are you? What's that supposed to mean? Says rue. Haymitch sits down. Ok I tell you a little bit about your mother. Says haymitch. She had this kind of spark this kind of…courage like no other tribute I've seen before and she also knew how to throw a knife right. Rue looks down at her feet. Haymitch looks at her and feels remorse. Ok maybe knives aren't your thing. Says haymitch. Than what is? Says rue. Hmmmm haymitch ponders than looked at rue. I wonder. Said haymitch. What? Said rue. Come with me. He said. They walk through the forest for about an hour until they see a hollow tree. A hollow tree? Says rue. It's not the tree says haymitch. It's what's inside it. And he pulls out a bow and a few arrows. What's this? Says rue. This was your mothers weapon during the games. Rues eyes widen as she stares at the bow. This was hers? Says rue. Yes. Said haymitch. Did she ever tell you about how she scared the crap out of the capitals dogs with that bow? Says haymitch. Yes. Rue giggles. Many times. Heh one of my favorite memories. Says haymitch. Ok lets see if you've got her trait. Says haymitch. Rue pulls the string of the bow back with an arrow in hand and aims the best she can. Then lets go the arrow makes a whizzing sound past haymitch and hits the target dead center. Rue smiles brightly. Haymitch looks over at rue. I guess its true the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree. Rue laughs. Haymitch and rue start to walk back home but when they get there rue is caught by surprise. There are peace keepers at her front door with her father. Rue runs over. Whats going on? Rue says. Rue…says peeta. Haymitch walks up to them. Your mother has been arrested and sentenced to death for crimes against the capital. Rue steps back in shock haymitch begins to yell at the peace makers. OH IS THAT SO? WHAT ARE THE CHARGES? He yells. She has assassinated the president. Haymitch stares blankly at peeta. Astonished rue doesn't know if she should cry or yell. Due to these conditions the 82nd hunger games has been postponed until there is a new president in office. says the other peace keeper. The peace keepers leave and the first thing rues does is run into her fathers arms. Haymitch puts a disappointed look on his face and leaves. The next day rue doesn't know if she should even bother to get out of bed. Peeta comes in to see her. Rue? He says. Sweetheart. Theres a pause in his voice then he speaks. Rue. I love your mother with all my heart and I will not see her die. Rue sits up and looks at her father. That's why im going to the capital to rescue your mother. END OF CHAPTER 3
