I don't own anything JKR created. She simply gave my imagination the courage to stand on its own.
Here's a short little scene between Snape and Lily. It almost made it into my drabble fic, but not quite. Hope you like! Reviews are always welcome...hint, hint! Enjoy!

Alone
"Severus?" Lily gently murmured.
Severus Snape sat in the Library with his back to the auburn haired girl. He had chosen the farthest table in the back. The one furthest away from any of the other students occupying the book filled room. After having been humiliated by James Potter yet again, he had no desire to see their condescending looks. He also had no desire to see Lily's face. He couldn't look at her after what her boyfriend had done to him. She was the only thing in his life that ever gave him any joy. He had been made a fool of and didn't want to see the pity he knew would be painted across her face.
"Severus?" she tried again.
After still getting no response from the young man before her, she decided to leave him alone. Severus could hear the swish of her robes as she turned and his heart twisted in his chest. Not wanting her to stay, but not wanting her to go either, his heart spoke for his pride.
"What?" he answered in an almost inaudible whisper.
Lily froze, suddenly forgetting what she was going to say to him. Finally, she found her words. "I just…I just wanted to say I was sorry for what James did to you," she said, turning to face him.
Pity, his mind spat at him. That's all you'll ever get from her, Severus. Just pity. He quietly laughed at himself for ever thinking that he might win the heart of Lily Evans over James Potter.
"I don't need your pity, Evans," he coldly shot at her.
"It's not pity, Severus," she said as she sat down in the chair next to him. "It's sympathy."
"Sympathy?" he asked, looking at her. "Sympathy implies that you have some sort of relationship with me in which you could sympathize with me. You don't, therefore it's pity. Don't pretend that you know me."
Taken aback at the harshness of his retort, she just stared into his brooding eyes for a minute. She could sense such loneliness in them. Not really knowing what to say to him, the first thoughts in her head stumbled out of her mouth.
"I've told him so many times to leave you alone. There's nothing attractive in humiliating you all the time."
Hearing the sudden intake of his breath she realized what she'd just said. "I'm sorry…I didn't mean to say humiliating, I just meant… Who am I kidding? I haven't a clue as to what I'm trying to say."
Looking into her eyes, he could see the confusion plaguing her thoughts. He could also see that she was genuinely sorry. There was no pity in those green eyes. He had been mistaken. Taking the chance he thought he would never take, he clumsily leaned in to kiss her. Not really paying attention to what he was doing Lily didn't have a chance to pull away quick enough. His lips touched hers and at that very moment, James walked through the Library doors.
Lily quickly pulled away and looked into the eyes of her boyfriend. She could see the pain caused by what he had just witnessed as he turned and ran out the door.
"James! No, wait," she cried as she ran after him, ignoring Madam Pince telling her to lower her voice.
Severus was left sitting alone once again at his table. Alone was a word he knew well…
