He searched around him looking for anything familiar.
Nothing…
Darkness surrounded him.
…Not again…
He began walking forward, as his steps echoed in the darkness, a sense of determination surged from his soul.
No, this time will be different. I'm going to save them, I swear it.
Once again, a familiar setting fell around him. He, however, kept walking, unaffected by the change in surroundings. He knew not to waste time on the devastated area. He knew not to look on in horror at the crumbling walls that threatened to fall on him.
In the distance, he could hear soldiers fighting and falling. A war lie just ahead of him. His pace hastened. He quickly approached the end of the dilapidating hallway into a chaotic battlefield.
I hope there is still time.
Without hesitation, the young man sprang into a run, all the while cutting down the faceless soldiers that approached him. The young swordsman suddenly stopped when a red-haired soldier came into view.
He's still alive. I'm not too late.
At the sound of his friend's voice, he came out of his shock.
"Hey! Can you give me a hand here?" The red-haired swordsman continued to clash swords with another faceless soldier. The opponent did not seem strong so… how could he be losing? He started running forward with his blade held to his side. He wanted nothing more than to cut down the monster attacking his friend.
Instead, he felt a great sting on his cheek as it grazed the dirt. He quickly turned on his back and looked at his ankle. Encased over it was a golden glowing cuff with a matching chain that stretched for a few feet and disappeared into the ground.
No! Not now!
Realizing his distraction, he quickly turned to his friend. He was still alive, but quickly losing the battle. The blue-eyed swordsman felt the ground underneath him move. He turned around and saw the chain dragging him into a small portal forming in the ground. The portal swirled with mixing hues of blue and violet. As he continued to be pulled towards the portal continued to grow, eventually becoming large enough to encompass its captive.
No! I have to save him!
In a desperate attempt, he grabbed his sword and attacked the chain, unfortunately to no avail. The chain did not even show signs of damage. If Falchion could not break the chain…
His body neared the portal in the ground. He had run out of time. He looked back at his friend in hopes that he made it out alive. He should have never looked. For he looked as his friend received a fatal strike from his challenger. The opponent removed his sword from the victim and blue eyes watched as his friend fell to his knees…
…then to the floor…
…lifeless.
He tried to reach his friend, but it was no use. He had already begun to fall. He yelled for his friend's name, only for it to echo in the dark abyss.
"Roy!"
