A day to remember

It was one of their last days at Hogwarts and the group that seemed to have filled the void left by Fred&George and The Marauders, were outside, enjoying the fact that all their exams were over. There was a sense of maturity and the expectations of the adult world hanging over all of them and right now they would've offered anything for another year of playing at Hogwarts. They all felt in some strange way that the moment that they were officially graduated from Hogwarts everything would cease and never be the same again.
Right now, they were trying not to think about it, Roxanne and Fred had their heads bent over a catalogue George had sent them from the shop, plotting the last ever prank while Alice and James stood at the edge of the lake, arguing under their breath.
"Admit it!" James' voice was teasing and slightly patronizing as he ruffled his girlfriend's hair. Alice punched his shoulders, a sarcastic smile on her face. "You punch like a girl, Al" He laughed at her, which was something she could never deal with when annoyed. So she pushed him into the lake.
Roxanne and Fred looked up and laughed as they seen James up to his waist in water, a startled expression on his face as he stared up to the bank where Alice was standing, one eyebrow arched and a satisfied smirk on her face,
"I thought I punched like a girl, James?"
James didn't have a chance to answer, before he could formulate a reply, the surface of the lake was disturbed again as Roxanne and Fred pushed Alice in beside him,
"Kiss and make up or we aren't letting you out" Roxanne's smirk was wide as she looked at her two friends.
"Yeah, we've had to listen to your arguing all morning!" Fred's grin, mirrored his twin's in width as he seen some of their cousins on the opposite side of the lake laughing.
James glanced sideways at Alice and shrugged; she rolled her eyes at him, disguising her smile with a 'if we must' expression. James laughed, grabbing her wrist and pulling her towards him through the water. He lowered his head so that his lips met hers and suddenly they were in a little world of their own, floating in the middle of the lake.
"Oi!" Fred called in mock disgust, "There are children present!" He gestured towards their younger relatives at the other side of the lake, many of which were staring with veiled interest.
Neither of the seventeen year olds looked embarrassed as they broke apart, as Lily liked to say, they'd been caught at it enough times. James just waved at his younger cousins, a smile on his face and his arm still around Alice's waist.
Fred offered them both a hand but James declined, instead lifting Alice bridal style onto the bank and climbing out himself. The four teenagers stood on the bank of the lake for a few moments, two of them wet from head to toe and the other two still faintly amused.
"How about we go get some hot chocolate from the kitchens?"
James and Alice exchanged a glance before laughing,
"Didn't we tell you the story about the killer house elves?" Roxanne shook her head, not quite knowing what to make of that statement or even whether it was true or not. James looked around as Alice proceeded to tell Roxie and Fred about their encounter with several enraged house elves a few weeks previously, and he smiled. Suddenly graduating didn't feel like such a big thing, he'd always have his friends, and his memories
