A/N Just for hope
"Don't make this another at-the-altar moment Jackson," Maggie's voice broke into Jackson's heavy musings. His furrowed brow smoothed at the accusation in her tone.
"I don't know what you're talking about." He wasn't that guy anymore anyway, the guy that stood up at weddings, who professed his love into crowds of people, and who didn't care if his actions burned his world to the ground.
"Sure," The roll of the eyes that punctuated the statement, immediately caused Jackson to jump to the defense.
"I'm serious."
"I know you are," her placating tone grated on his nerves.
Jackson barely refrained from throwing the carrot in his hand at her. He was over it, he was over April. The silence was awkward and tense for a handful of moments. Maggie staring at Jackson, willing him to talk to her. This was killing him, and the whole of Seattle Grace knew.
Maggie wouldn't let Jackson get out this conversation. Jackson needed to face the reality of the situation, and the situation was that April was getting married. During an ill-advised, brief string of dates between the two of them, April had met someone, someone that seemed to be sticking around. The princess cut diamond that sat on her left-hand ring finger was there less than eight months later.
"Look at me Jackson," Their relationship developed from an awkward almost romance to a solid friendship. They could be honest with each other. He told her when she was being a pain in the ass and she let him know when he was being a pretentious prick. This was one of the moments where Maggie had to call him out.
Maggie waited until he made eye contact with her, "Jackson, April is getting married-"
"Do you think I don't know-"
"You need to listen to me Jackson," He opened his mouth to speak again but thought better of it when he saw the look in her eye. "Jackson, April is getting married, to Dillon. In 4 months. I thought when we finished whatever it was that we were, you would have had the good sense to beg her to take you back. But you didn't. You backed off, because you were confident that they would break up. Jackson, they have every intention getting married. Just like she intended to marry Matthew." To this day Jackson can't help but smirk when he thinks about the paramedic.
"But Jackson, we both know that April will not walk down the aisle without you saying something. You're not passive. You won't let her marry him without having your last say. I am telling you though Jackson, if you wait until she's dressed in white, she is going to say no, she won't run out of a barn with you. The longer you wait, the more committed she is to this wedding." She stood up, the cafeteria was busy during the afternoon lunch rush, so leaned down to whisper a finishing thought.
"Also, Dillon is a gorgeous, kind, successful, Major League Baseball player, and honestly is a lot safer choice than you are. So if they break up, I may have to jump on that, reputation be damned. So stop being a freakin' idiot, and go get the girl," She walked away, but not before taking a long look at April, who was laughing at the antics of Teddy and Arizona across the cafeteria.
Jackson pressed his palms into his eyes, in a motion of frustration. He hated that Maggie had been right. He hated that it took his stepsister calling him out on his crap to realize that April was slipping through his finger. Dillon was a great guy though, and Jackson liked him more than he cared to admit, but it didn't matter. Jackson was her person, MLB fiancé be damned, Jackson resolved that he would be her only husband.
