Halo: The Last Hope

Prologue: After intense space fighting around earth, the covenant managed to battle their way inward, though they sustained heavy casualties. The marine forces on earth had minutes to prepare for the covenant ground forces. They put up the best defense they could, but it was not enough. The covenant slaughtered the outer defenses, and then stopped to reorganize.

Chapter 1: Another Battle, Another Planet 24 hours earlier.

Master Chief was resting in his Longsword fighter while Cortana occasionally made an adjustment to their course.
"Master Chief, sir, we are receiving an Emergency beacon coming from Captain Duke," Cortana said.
"Christ, what is it now?," replied Master Chief.
"Covenant forces have entered the system from slipstream space. They estimate there are just fewer than 1000 covenant ships."
"Crap. How much longer 'till we arrive?"
"We should be able to make it in 16 hours; giving us 8 hours until the Covenant arrive."
The Spartan replied, "Well, only 24 hours 'till the fun starts."
"I wouldn't get your hopes up, this force looks unstoppable, considering Earth only has 500 ships and 10 million marines."
"You forget their best weapon."
"Oh?"
"Me."
Earth and Humans alike had one last hope, which happened to be a snoozing Spartan in a scraped up Longsword fighter and an A.I. cloned from the doctor that made this all possible: Dr. Halsey.

Chapter 2: Old Ties 2 hours before Covenant attack
As MC docked to a carrier, an emergency broadcast went out to all of mankind, telling everyone of the crisis at hand. Of course, the general making the broadcast did not want to cause rebellion and ruin their only hope of winning, so he simply said, "We are capable of handling the situation."
Many thought him a liar and set out to fulfill their most outrageous hopes and desires, knowing they did not have much time left. Many cases of robbery, rape, and murder were recorded at the FBI, CIA and such, but were not dealt with because of the ominous threat on the horizon.
MC and Cortana made their way to prepare the land defenses, knowing they would be useless in the air. Since all the militants remaining in the universe had gathered to fight, the defenses would be grand, but MC knew that 1000 Covenant ships meant likely over 2 million Covenant ground forces, and with plasma beams and energy shields, they would be nearly unstoppable. Over all, though, MC had to fight for his race, so he put everything behind him and prepared.
