Here's some little brotherly cuteness, written on a whim.

"Hikaru!" Kaoru cried, running in through the open kitchen door, small hands clasped together. "Look! Look!"

Hikaru looked up from the sink where he was washing his hands after falling in the dirt. "What is it, Kaoru?"

"Look!" the little boy insisted happily, moving his hands close to his brother and opening them slightly. Hikaru pressed one hazel eye up against the opening. Inside, crawling around on Kaoru's right palm, was a ladybug.

"Cool! Where'd you find it?"

"This way!" Kaoru smiled gleefully, dashing out the door again. Hikaru followed quickly, hands still wet and dripping with soap.

Together, the twins ran, laughing and giggling, all the way through their parents' extensive gardens. They passed patches of pansies and petunias, ponds full of water lilies, and sculpted hedges donned with daisies until they reached the very back, where the roses grew.

"It was on this one," Kaoru said, pointing to one of the prized orange roses. Under closer inspection by Hikaru, two more ladybugs were found on the underside of the leaves of the very same flower.

"Hey," Hikaru said, eyes narrowing at the two ladybugs that had crawled off the leaves and onto his fingertips, "look at this, Kaoru."

"I see them," the twin said. "What about them?"

"They're identical."

Kaoru peered closer. The ladybugs were both the same shade of tomato red, and each had the same number of spots. "One, two, three, four, five!" Kaoru counted. When Kaoru got too close, though, the bugs leapt off Hikaru's fingers and flew off into the sky.

"Kaoru, you scared them away," Hikaru complained.

Kaoru went to say sorry, but was distracted by a fat fuzzy bumblebee buzzing past his face to land on the blue rose next to him. Both he and Hikaru stared in wonder and awe as the black and yellow creature did its job of pollinating the flower, then flew off to the next one. The twins continued to watch the bee flower-hop until it got too far away and they could no longer pick it out. They exchanged a look, and started back to their house, hand in hand.

Suddenly, Hikaru stopped walking. Kaoru continued a little ways until his twin squeezed his hand, making him stop.

"What is it, Hikaru?"

Hikaru smiled devilishly; he pulled back his free hand and tapped Kaoru on the shoulder.

"Tag!" he cried. "You're it!"
