Summary:
You forgot a lot when you were on a ship for so long.
She thought it was an attack. Except the Cylons were a lifetime and two planets ago, and their brothers and sisters on earth didn't give enough of a frak to try and follow them. But it wasn't enemy fire.
Her men moved with her to the door, both watching the weather outside as if they'd never seen it before. But you forgot a lot when you were on a ship for so long. Wind, weather, sunit all faded away until only the stars were left.
She thought she'd miss the stars. She didn't kiss the ground beneath her feet when they landed, but she came pretty damned close.
The older Adama smiled at her as the younger one wrapped his arms around her neck. "What do you hear, Starbuck?" His voice was gruff with emotion.
Her own voice cracked, something that never happened before Zak or war or losing everyone she ever loved. "Rain, sir."
Other people were standing in their doorways, the kids already running outside to play in this new thing that the shipborn had never known.
The younger Adama leaned forward in her arms, his blue eyes staring at the falling rain. Thunder rumbled in the distance, and her son covered his ears, looking at her in wonder.
"Rain, Lee-Lee," she repeated. William for Gee-pa, Lee for the Daddy he'd never know.
The thunder rumbled again. "Boom, boom, boom," echoed Lee-Lee.
This time, there were tears on both her and her father-in-law's face.
