White Wolf Fan Fiction Presents:

~Light In The Darkness~

A Dragon Age: Origins Story

Title: Light In The Darkness

Words: 444

Warnings: Yaoi (Boy Love), major hurt/comfort, minor angst, major fluff

Pairings: Alistair/Hope

Disclaimer: I only own Hope.

Summary: Because no matter what happens, Alistair will always be Hope's light in the never ending darkness that wanted to consume his mind, heart, body, and soul.

A/N: Part of an old thing on Tumblr called the Drabble Kingdom. Trying to get that back up, admittedly, but it's… a slow going process. *sighs* Apologies for any who's actually heard of this blog.

Hope sat against a tree in the blackened forest, his head lowered and his snow white hair covering closed ice-blue eyes. He wanted to cry, but he couldn't. He wanted to stomp around and slash at the trees around him, destroying everything in sight… but he couldn't. All he could do was sit where he was and think; to drown in his thoughts as what had happened today repeated in his head over and over again.

Because he'd killed a kid today… he'd failed at saving him and he had watched as the kid became swallowed up in the black flames. He had... heard the kid scream in terror and pain. And that in itself had killed Hope. To listen and to know he was at fault.

Hope curled up tighter, arms wrapped around his legs as he drew his knees up tight to his chest and finally the tears fell.

The kid's parents had yelled at him, screamed at him, had hit him and thrown things at him. And what did he do? He… he had run away. Because he hadn't been able to take it. Being in the darkness for so long, the stress getting to him, and the consequences of every action he had made over the past year as a Grey Warden were finally taking it's toll on him.

"Why did Duncan have to choose me…?" he whispered to himself, shaking his head in anguish and pain. Even Duncan died because of him… because while no one said anything about it all, they didn't have to. He knew it was his fault. It always is.

"Because he saw something in you that you don't see in yourself." Hope's head snapped up and he let out a choked gasp when he heard Alistair's voice and he saw the older man, momentarily awestruck when he saw the full moon high above them casting an ethereal glow around him.

"A-Ali…" Hope's voice quivered and Alistair sighed softly in answer.

"It wasn't your fault, no matter what those people said or did. You just couldn't save him, no matter what you tried." he told Hope, kneeling down in front of him and the elf looked down, unable to believe those words. He just couldn't.

"H-he died… because of me, Alistair…"

"No," Alistair's voice was stern as he lifted Hope's head up with a single hand. "It was not your fault." he added before leaning down and stealing a gentle, loving kiss from the elf. And Hope didn't hesitate to kiss him back, tears still streaking down his cheeks.

Because at least one person still believed in him… his light in the darkness.

His Alistair.
