Author's Note: Of course the wonderful universe of Harry Potter belongs only to JK Rowling. I just mess around with some ideas. Hope you all enjoy the story!

Chapter 1

Harry Potter has faced many things. Each occasion more daunting than the next. He's faced Voldemort and survived each encounter. He's slayed a Basilisk and out flew a dragon for heaven's sake! But this? This obstacle seems almost impossible. Harry tried to make his mind stop buzzing around with anxiety and listen to Professor McGonagall's announcement.

"It has been a tradition of the Triwizard tournament to hold a Yule Ball." stated McGonagall. Every time she said the word ball, one could almost see the looks of horror on all the males' faces. They knew what it meant. DANCING. Opposite the guys' looks of pain, there were excited giggles and faces of all the girls in the room who immediately began thinking about a glamorous night.

"I expect each and every one of you to uphold the honor of Gryffindor house and not act like a babbling, bumbling, band of baboons!" McGonagall said, looking sternly at Gryffindor house over the tops of her glasses. "That will be all."

Immediately everyone broke out into conversation about the upcoming festivities and about who would go with whom.

Ron and Harry were both sitting in squishy armchairs by the fire, looking slightly green. "Oh come on you two. It's not the end of the world!" Hermione huffed, looking up from a book she had been reading.

"Easy for you to say!" exclaimed Ron. "We'll have to find dates and…dance." Ron whispered the last part like it was some form of evil to have to dance. "Back me up here Harry."

Harry however, still had this feeling of dread still within him, like this could only get worse, as it always did for him. He found it difficult to respond to Ron right away.

"Mr. Potter." spoke a voice right behind them. "It is my duty to inform you that as a Triwizard champion, you and your date will have to present yourselves in the opening dance of the Yule Ball along with the other champions." Harry Potter took Professor McGonagall's words with a grimace, and looked very pained at the very thought of actually having to dance in front of the whole school. He opened his mouth as if about to protest. "Relax yourself Mr. Potter." McGonagall interrupted. "As this is required of you, I have no doubt you'll rise to the occasion." With that, McGonagall turned around and exited through the portrait hole.

"Everyone thinks I'm a nutter! This is going to be awful." moaned Harry.

"Cheer up, Harry." Said Hermione. "It isn't all bad."

Harry through his head up in irritation. "Really Hermione? You don't have to find a date and dance in front of the entire school."

Ron gave him a small punch on the arm with his fist. "You faced a dragon, mate! The girls will be lining up to go with you."

"I think I would rather face the dragon again." Harry mumbled dejectedly. He thought that would be loads easier than what lay ahead of him. Besides, who would he even ask?

"Well, who do you want to go with Ron?" Harry challenged.

Ron shrugged, his expression taking on a nervous quality. He took a deep breath, like he was about to do something rather dangerous. He gave Harry a quick glance before saying, "Well Hermione, you're a girl…" Ron said nervously.

"Great observation Ronald." Hermione replied with her eyebrow raised, almost as if she knew what was coming.

"Would you..um…like to…would you go to the ball with me?" Ron managed to finally get out.

Hermione actually looked surprised when he finally asked her. Closing her book, and standing up, Hermione gave a shy smile. It was strange to see Hermione give this kind of look. "Sure Ron." Hermione replied. She then heads towards her room, having a small smile on her face the entire time.

"Bloody hell!" Ron yelled as he slumped back into his armchair. "I didn't think she'd say yes!"

"Congrats. Wondered when you would finally realize your feelings." Harry mischievously said. His worries were forgotten, even if just for a moment.

Ron came back at him instantly, "Just wait until you have to ask your date to the ball!"

Harry's face slowly slid into a frown as he set a glare towards Ron, who just laughed in response. He had no clue who to ask! If Ron could pluck up the courage to ask Hermione, then surely he could do the same for someone else. This thought didn't stop the butterflies that were forming in Harry's stomach though. Who would even want to go with him?

AN: And there was the first chapter! I still have no idea who I want Harry to ask to the dance. I have a few ideas, but none seem to really jump at me. Anyways, please review! I'd love to hear thoughts and ideas from you all.
