-1The
Geisha
by Laura James
She looked into the mirror,
saddened
soft lips of crimson, a cheek snow white,
how could
a man resist this girl?
with such poised air, hair dark as
night...
The geisha stared, with deep brown eyes,
at her
kimono, a colour of fall,
and wondered, "Why should I live
this life,
the one I hardly know at all,
To hide my soul, to
shed it so,
for money, for a gentleman's call-
I do want
to love! And I want to be free!
Forever, and for eternity...
but
how could you feel for the ersatz heart,
of I, a living work of
art?"
And with that thought, the geisha smiled,
until
the door burst open wide,
An older woman, strict and tall,
spoke
to the geisha, "Come, my child."
The two fine women
left the room,
the freedom coming to a demise,
Though the
geisha's life was beautiful,
it was just, a web of lies.
