Disclaimer: If I owned Final Fantasy VII, Edge wouldn't be so grey. But, Square-Enix owns it, so enjoy the monochromatic color scheme.

Notes: Completely random idea from who knows where… Probably a random conversation with Selunchen and writing Aerithism.

Lost Compassion

Kadaj opened his eyes slowly. Vague shapes tried to focus itself for him. "Mother…?"

He could hear someone whimpering beside him. "Mommie!" A deep voice cried. Blinking, the teenager could make out a silver-haired man, Loz, sitting on his right. "I wan' ma mommie!"

Kadaj patted the back of his companion. "It's okay… We'll find her."

"We shouldn't… She wants to hurt people." Kadaj looked across the cave. A thin, gaunt man was staring at a small, feminine child.

The long-haired man was silent for several minutes before speaking. "They deserve to be hurt… And you should want the same, Conpashion."

"Yeah… You should wanna make Mommie happy."

Conpashion always takes their side… "Why do you care about them? They took this Planet from Mother."

The child shook his head. "I think… I'm going to go for a walk." Lifting his frail body off the cave wall, he stumbled outside.

Kadaj rubbed his chin. "We're going to have to do something about Conpashion…"

"Yeah… Always a meanie to Mother…"

Yazoo pushed himself up from his spot and crawled towards the center. "Maybe… We should remove this problem… We could use the parts of Mother that Conpahion has…"

Kadaj smiled, and left the cave. He could make out Conpashion's small boot imprints. He followed the trail until he reached the edge of a cliff. He could see the ruins of Midgar from here…

He turned his head to the left and saw the small child, sitting upon a boulder. He slid along the edge and sat down beside his youngest brother. "Good afternoon, Big Brother. The sunset is… pretty here, isn't it?"

He raised an eyebrow and looked at where she was staring. Nothing special about it. "… Conpashion?"

"Yes, Kadaj?"

He shook his head and wrapped his right arm around his brother's small waist. "Goodbye." His left hand was on his twin-bladed sword, and thrust through his brother's small frame.

Rather than releasing blood, the wound revealed bits of Lifestream. Kadaj could feel his hand burn at the touch, and pushed the body away. Conpashion blinked, but his eyes seemed unable to focus. "Good… bye…… Brother."

That ended up pretty dark, huh?
