Music effortlessly speaks the language of love. It can manipulate the mood of a room with just a couple of bars. It can be bold and striking, somber and scary or light and humours. A good musician creates melodies without instruction, they just close their eyes and let their feelings at that moment take over.
That is why Kate had said that you can tell if you were in love simply by listening to music. It's how she knew that from the moment she met him, she loved him.
Kate always believed that the music she composed was the most intimate insight into her soul. When her mother died she picked up a guitar for the first time. She could not really play but strumming loud and obnoxious noises seemed to sooth her soul, it's like the outside world could finally hear what she was hearing on the inside.
She learnt to really play not long after, and when her father would come home drunk and angry at the world she would clean him up and sit beside his bed and play soothing songs. Sometimes it would be her mothers favourite songs and other times it was just soft loving melodies. To let his deep conscience know that she was there and she loved him.
She was never one for writing down the music she wrote, she just remembered it every time she picked up the guitar. Before Castle came along her music was strong and fast. She noticed the change the day she met him. After that first case was over she went home and picked up her guitar, but she couldn't bring herself to play her usual dark tune, all she could play was light and before she knew why she was smiling and laughing at herself and all the cheeky things he has done in the past few days. Without even trying he had torn down walls that she didn't even know existed.
Looking back now she can accept the things that she couldn't then. She can accept that, that day, she fell in love. And that's why today, on their wedding day she asked to say her own vows.
He was waiting eagerly for her to begin, he could see how nervous she was. Her eyes focused on their joined hands, breathing deeply. He squeezed her hand, a little nervous himself, she did have a history of running after all. At the pressure she raised her eyes to meet his, when she saw the slight look of fear in his eyes, his didn't hesitate anymore.
"Richard Castle, from the moment I met you, I loved you.
I learnt that day that my heart had but one owner. Only one true friend and lover, others have tried to fill that void that you left, but it's only you who has been able to replenish its thirst.
I know this, for its only your ears that hear the things I do not say. Only your lips that let slip the things I need to hear the most, and it's only your arms that hold the promise of safety.
Although none of that matters because its your eyes that tell me the truth. It's that breathtaking moment every time your smile meets your eyes, it's like you have cast a spell on me. I can't look away, my mind goes blank and my knees go weak beneath me.
However, it's not only that, it's your eyes that see me as nobody else does. You see my fears and take the heat of the attention. You see my joy and light up as well. You see my nerves and wrap a protective arm around me.
I don't know much, but I know from the moment I met you, I loved you."
