Innocence
Sesshoumaru sighed as he stopped once again to wait for the little girl who seemed to have attached herself to him. He couldn't understand why he bothered to keep her with him, she was constantly in need of something, always slowing him down, always prattling about something and disturbing him... And yet, there seemed to be something about her that some part of him couldn't do without, as though something had been missing for a long time, and only now had been returned to him. He constantly reminded himself that reviving her had been an experiment, that after confronting Inuyasha's new mastery of the Tessaiga, he had wanted to see how his own Tenseiga truly worked on an undoubtedly dead body, but deep inside, he couldn't deny that he had felt an odd twinge inside himself when he had recognized the blood scent - the death scent mixed with that of wolves - as that of the young girl who had tried to tend to him as he lay injured. The scent had told him hurrying would do no good, but even so, he had had a brief urge to run to wherever she was. When he reached her, there was absolutely no question that she was dead. And also no question within himself of what he had to do. He'd barely heard Jaken ask if he knew this human. He couldn't admit even to himself that he couldn't stand to see her lying there dead. He'd had a flash of memory, remembered seeing her smile at him...it had reminded him of another hazy memory of a child's smiling, trusting face, and he had known he couldn't just leave her lying there dead, not when just that morning she had smiled at him with her bruised, mistreated face, so he had told himself this was merely an experiment as he pulled out the Tenseiga and slashed through the hellish pallbearers. When he'd held her in his arms and felt her come back to life, heard her heart begin to beat once again, it had been a most incredible feeling. It had almost been too much, though, he'd had to get away. She had followed him then, and his instincts wouldn't let him simply abandon her. She was his pup now, they told him, he had brought her back to life in this world full of hazards, so it was his responsibility to protect her and provide for her. So that was what he had done, and that was what he would continue to do until she was able to live on her own, however long that took. And if his whole reward was her sweet innocent smiles, that would be enough for him.
Okay, it's short and it's weird, but I wanted to examine just what might have been going through Sess-chan's mind when he "rescued" Rin
