Beyond The King
"Every great film should seem new every time you see it. " That was a quote made by a Mister Roger Ebert. I like to cling to that quote because it's what I want my film's to be like. Forever timeless. The Wizard of Oz was made in the 1930's and yet to this day, people still enjoy it. Why can't my film's be like that? I'll tell you why. It's simply because of the fact that I do not take risks as a film director. My grandfather Carl Denham, did take a risk. He managed to film what is still known to be the greatest thing to happen in New York. King Kong. Well, of course the filming and capture of such a creature rose him up in the ranks as a film maker and it is the money he earned in the film's he made afterward that got us to where we are now. That is, living in a mansion up in The Hollywood Hills. While I adore the view I can't help but feel a pang of regret everytime I look upon it. My parents never went into filmmaking, but I did. I not only am doing this to show that this family still has spark left in it. I'm trying to do what my grandfather did. Sure, the beast is dead but what of other wonders? What other creatures undiscovered lie on that island? Well, I am taking my camera to find out!
Skull Island still remained to be a deserted and dangerous place. Deserted and Dangerous to the one's who didn't see it. They heard stories of course, from the people who came with Carl Denham on his adventure into the unknown. However, some truths were damaged and now the Island, that was once known to be filled with savage beasts and uncivilized humans, was back to it's normal state.
Some said Sara Denham was crazy to travel out with her film crew to Skull Island. Others simply took it as her saying "I want to live up to my grandfather" and dismissed foul words.
Sara herself never took any bad rumours to heart. And as people watched her run through the city in search of actors she said,
"Never fear, a new generation is coming."
She said it everytime and despite people not knowing of it's meaning, the quote began popping up everywhere, on city streets. Written on mirrors. Even graffited on empty streets. Yes, it was true. The Denham's were coming back into film.
One however, did not deal in the out pouring of rumours. Her name was Katherine Darrow, the granddaughter of the famous Ann Darrow, who got swept off her feet by Kong. Literally, she was swept off her feet. Carried to the top of The Empire State Building as a matter of fact. Since then however, The Darrow family had lived in secret for fear of being questioned. Like Sara though, Katherine found herself as attracted to the stage as her grandmother. Of course, she was questioned, but a word never came out from Katherine's lips. She statyed forcused on the task at hand which was being an actress.
So for a rumour hater like her, the last thing Katherine needed was someone who started a commotion in New York City. Sara Denham.
Sadly, the commotion starter was exactly who came to meet her the coffee shop.
