The Luckiest Man in the Universe
A/N: This has no spoilers past series two, and is fluffy but does have a dash of angst.
He loved watching her when she wasn't looking. The way she bit her bottom lip when she was thinking, the way her smile lit up the room, the way she looked at him when she didn't think he was watching. It made the loss of his people, his planet, just a little bit easier to bare.
Even when they had a row, it made him feel special. When she got angry, he knew it was only because she cared. She was full of passion, she was alive. And because of her, so was he.
The Doctor smiled and leaned over Rose Tyler's shoulder to peer at what she was reading. He could never stand it for very long when she was preoccupied with something other than him. Not that he's ever told her that. Not that he ever would. But somehow, he couldn't help but wonder if she knew anyway.
"What?" She tossed her soft, blond hair to the side and met his eyes.
"Oh, I was just thinking about this planet where the ocean seems to literally sparkle as the sun rises. Well, actually it technically doesn't sparkle, really. It's more of a glow."
Rose's eyes started to light up in a way that a glittery ocean could never compete with. "Did I mention the sky is purple?"
She tossed her book down. "What are we waiting for then?"
He beamed and darted to the control console, with her fast on his heels.
The Doctor's fingers brushed against hers as he pressed a series of buttons. He paused to tell her something, anything about how much she meant to him.
Rose, I'm the luckiest man in the universe, because I have you.
But the words couldn't seem to leave his throat. So he just gave her his most charming smile, and told himself there was always tomorrow. He had plenty of time, he'd find a way to say it later. There was always later.
Feedback is loved and adored :) please leave some it makes me smile :)
