"What am I doing?" Amy thought to herself. "This is insane. I can't believe what just happened…"

6 Hours earlier:

It had been 2 years. Two long years with no leads on who killed her family. Amy had to travel to Seattle for work, and decided to take her family with her and double it as their vacation. After an unproductive day of sitting at the company's booth at the conference, she was looking forward to spending some time at the beach with her family. Amy got to the bed and breakfast in Forks, opened the door…and her world crumbled.

Amy's husband, son, & daughter were all dead.

There was a complete police investigation. There had been a large murder streak in Seattle. No one was ever caught-the authorities seem to think that the killer or killers moved on.

Amy sighed, "2 years." There is no evidence beyond her family being ripped apart. No blood, no fingerprints, no DNA. How is that possible? It hurts to even try and wrap her head around it. It is almost like her family's murder is being swept under the rug. Amy walked angrily into the Sheriff's office in Forks.

"Now, Mrs. Shaw, please lower your voice. I understand you are upset, but we have gotten no further on your family's case." Sheriff Charlie Swan said.

"I can't imagine how difficult it is to lose your loved ones…and not have any answers as to how did it or why. I assure you-"

"You can take your assurances and shove them. My family was MURDERED!" Amy cried, being to lose control.

From the back room, a voice said, "Hey Charlie. I think this is one of those *need to know* situations. Want me to help with Mrs. Shaw and you can take my patrol?"

Gratefully Charlie looked at Jacob Black, the Deputy Sheriff, and back to Mrs. Shaw. "Yeah, sure. Mrs. Shaw-I am terribly sorry about everything. Deputy Black will be able to assist you on this case."

Amy looked dubiously at Deputy Black. He was tall-very tall. He looked like one of those cops who thought the world revolved around him.

"Mrs. Shaw-why don't you come back to the conference room and we can go over your case?" Jacob said. "Sheriff Swan already told me that there weren't any new leads." Amy sadly said. She sighed, and followed him to the table.

Jacob opened the case file. As he was reading it, Amy could see his expressions changing. He went from the cocky know it all cop to upset and angry. He muttered, "Nothing new for 21 months…" and said something too low for Amy to hear.

"Mrs. Shaw, I will do everything I can to try and find who killed your family." Jacob said as he reached out and touched Amy on the shoulder for comfort. Amy's eyes grew wide and she gasped-it was like a surge of electricity going through her. And by the look on Jacob's face, he felt it too.

Jacob cleared his throat, "Ummm." Amy just laughed. Ummm about covered it. Jacob smiled. He looked at the clock and said, "My shift is almost over. I am starving-do you want to get something to eat and discuss what we can do with your case?" Amy took a quick survery of herself-she was hungry. But after the emotional rollercoaster she had been on, she'd doubted she would eat. But anything to try and get her family's murderer caught, Amy would do it. "Sure."
