Mumble was a happy penguin. He had a beautiful wife Gloria who was the most beautiful singer he known, and was quite funny, and his only son Erik. But one day he wondered was on the other side of the frozen river. "Gloria!" said Mumble hastily, "I'm going to the other side of the frozen river." Gloria was confused, the leader of the penguins said never to cross the river. "Wait mumble! Were not allowed to cross the river!" she panted chasing after him before he crossed, "I will explain later just take care of Erik for me." He quickly replied before he went off. The Journey across the river wasn't that perilous there were no elephant seals around and there were small holes were he could stick his beak in and fish for prawn or silverfish. He was halfway across the river when is got dark out Mumble decided to make a snow bed and sleep. The next mourning Mumble pecked a hole in the icy river to fish. He saw a great big silver fish and wanted it badly, but the fish would swim away every time he tried to catch it with his beak. Mumble kept pecking holes trying desperately to catch the fish. Then he heard something that sounded like an elephant seal cracking a neck of a penguin. Mumble was in shock; was one of his friends in peril? Then he suddenly realized it wasn't a neck of a fellow penguin, it was the ice of the river that he was on. Mumble realized that his curiosity had taken the best of him, that he should have listen to his wife, Gloria. Mumble waddled as fast as he could to get back to his family and friends, but strangely he felt rain. Mumble looked up into the sky and saw no clouds and noticed that the water that fell down his face was salty. Rain water was never salty. He looked behind him to see barely any ice left, it was flooding. Gloria was watching her son Erik play with other penguins when she heard the sound of a seashell horn their leader was blowing is as a warning symbol. "What's going one?" Gloria said to their leader. "We have to evacuate our current camp," he said in his elderly voice," the ice on the river is breaking away, it sort of like a dam, is keeps the water from flooding over." Gloria was devastated, Mumble was crossing that river and now that it flooded, what would happen to her Husband? "We can't leave now! Mumble is still out there we have to wait for his return!" Gloria panted, her heart was racing. "I'm sorry but we can't risk the lives of all the others for a single penguin! That could cause the extinction to the emperor penguins. You know what happened to the mammoths, you don't want that happening to us! He is probably dead already." Leader grunted he didn't really like Mumble at all. Mumble was a rebellious penguin and the fact of him disobeying his rules and crossing the river haphazardly enraged him. Gloria's love for Mumble was strong but she didn't want to risk the lives of others, including her precious son, Erik. She had to obey leaders command and get ready to move. She was upset that Mumble wandered across the river despite the warnings, but all she cared about was his safety. Was Leader right? Was Mumble already dead, his corpse somewhere at the bottom of the salty sea? No she didn't believe him something in her heart told her that she would see her beloved again. Mumble was a brave penguin, and very friendly he would surely make companions who would help him. What would she tell her son Erik when he came back from playing. She couldn't think of an excuse now, she was to busy thinking about Mumble.
