For the first time in what seemed like forever, it was a rainy day in the city of Los Angeles. Deeks was bored, and that meant trouble for everyone else. Kensi was completely sick of her partner's antics, which had included a whoopee cushion in Sam's chair, superglue on Eric's keyboard, hiding Kensi's cosmetics case, and all the boxing gloves crammed into Callen's locker so that they all fell out on him when he opened it to get a dry t-shirt after a rainy morning run. And it wasn't just Kensi who was sick of it; Deeks had gotten warnings from everybody else not to pull any more stunts like that. Along with her annoyance, Kensi also felt something akin to fear. There was only one other person who had not fallen victim to Deeks' pranks. Hetty. She sincerely hoped that her partner was playing it safe and not doing anything. Ever since the target incident during his testing, Hetty had been rather short with him.
Her hopes were in vain.
Deeks was sitting at his desk, innocently reading through a case file. Hetty walked into her office, heaving a tired sigh. Callen caught on to her frustration.
"What's the matter, Hetty?"
"Nothing that can't be fixed by a cup of tea and some music. I'm sure you won't mind?"
"By all means." Callen replied. Hetty nodded her thanks, and walked into the office. Seconds later the intro to 'Born This Way' drifted over the partition. Kensi looked puzzled when she realized that it was in the wrong key to be sung by Lady Gaga. Then, instead of a woman's voice, the nasally voice of Weird Al Yankovic began belting out his own version of the song. Kensi sent up a silent prayer to whatever deity was listening, that Hetty was in a merciful mood.
My mama told me when I was hatched
'Act like a superstar
Save your allowance, buy a bubble dress
And someday you will go far.'
Now on red carpets, well, I'm hard to miss,
The press follows everywhere I go
I'll poke your eye out with a dress like this,
Back off and enjoy the show!
I'm sure my critics will say
It's a grotesque display
Well, they can bite me
Baby, I perform this way.
I might be wearing Swiss cheese
Or maybe covered with bees
It doesn't mean I'm crazy,
I perform this way!
Ooh, my little monsters pay
Lots 'cause I perform this way,
Baby, I perform this way
Ooh, don't worry, I'm okay
Hey I just perform this way
I'm not crazy; I perform this way.
I'll be a troll, or evil queen
I'll be a human jellybean
Cause everyday is Halloween for me…
The music came to a halt. Everyone was staring at Deeks in shock. Hadn't he worked here long enough to know better than to mess with Hetty's stuff? Kensi shook her head in dismay at her partner's stupidity. Deeks still was reading his case files as though nothing had just happened. Hetty strode into the area between the desks.
"Would anyone like to explain this?" she asked, holding up the CD in question. She looked around the room, and the only one present was Deeks, who now looked completely abandoned. Hetty smiled. Deeks gulped.
"Mr. Deeks, I believe this is yours."
"Yes ma'am. I've been looking for that…"
