Authors Note: This is my first time posting any of my work! I'm very nervous, but excited. I had originally planned for this to be a one-shot, but I'm willing to continue based on the response. Enough from me I hope you enjoy.
By the way I own don't own Life with Derek.
An Ivory Affair
It had been three years since he had seen her last and now there was an ivory envelope sitting on the counter. He couldn't bring himself to open that envelope, there was no need to. He already knew what that fateful envelope contained; he was trying to fool himself. He was in denial, he believed if he ignored it then it would go away. Her memory would never go away that much he was sure of.
There she stood in front of that mirror looking radiant in a floor length white gown, the dress of her dreams. Yet her mind was somewhere else, her thoughts drifted away to him. She kidded herself if she thought that she could forget about him, like the way she thought he forgot about her. He was the reason she was in front of the mirror, too many words were left unspoken, too much time had elapsed, and it was for the best she told herself.
Casey had been staring at her empty room for about and hour when a soft knock broke her trance. Without even turning around she knew who was at her door.
"Derek. What do you want?"
"To say goodbye to my favorite sister of course. I mean university will finally put that needed distance between us. Since we can't stand to be near one another."
"Yea the needed distance" She just continued to stare into the distance.
He stepped closer and saw the way her body tensed in reaction to their close proximity. "Caseā¦" he whispered.
She turned around her eye glazed over with tears that threatened to fall. "Change is good" was the only thing she managed to choke out.
"Nothing has to change if you don't want it all you have to do is say the word." He replied. His eyes searched her face for any kind of hint, but found nothing.
She turned away from him and the moment was gone. "I'm all packed how about you?" And with that she turns to face him with all the strength she can muster.
Then he saw what he is looking for, he sees all the things she would never say reflected in her face. "Yea I'm all set; I can't wait to start fresh and away from the chaos around here! Like I said I'm done with the small town feel, I'm on to bigger and better things."
Those words stung her but she would never let him know it. "Good-Luck Derek. Good-bye"
"Good-bye Casey"
Neither of them could move it was as if they were both rooted to the floor. Suspended in all of the unspoken words, it was deep they would have drowned. Except Casey extended her hand to Derek and he shook it ever so slightly. It wasn't intimate or loving it was formal, and professional, cold even.
That had been the last time either one of them had spoken to each other and that was over three years ago. Now that moment was replaying in his mind over and over again. There was no escaping it, it echoed through his head like a ghost. The ivory envelope mocked him; it even smelled like her, which made things extremely hard to forget. He couldn't take it anymore so he finally threw his fist down on the table and swiped the envelope into the trash. A single drop of blood trickled down his hand, little did he know at that same moment a single tear slide down her face and got lost within the white folds of her gown.
