This kind of popped into my head after watching Newborn King again… In this story, the Lieutenant has not gone into labor or given birth to her daughter yet.
I hope you can forgive me for any mistakes I make. English is not my first language.
Marine Lieutenant Emma Reynolds sat in the Emergency Room of the Bethesda Naval Hospital and looked pretty lost. Her family had offered to come get her when they heard about the threats made to her but they hadn't been very successful because it had started to snow again and so Emma decided she would not burden them. Being stuck in traffic wasn't exactly the nicest thing to do on a Christmas Eve. The Lieutenant wasn't even sure if she wanted to go anymore. Her uncle sure could have protect her but she had never really had a bond to him. In the end, she decided to stay at the hospital and wait for her baby's arrival. She could even go back to her apartment when he or she was finally there – after all, no one was following her anymore. NCIS had done their job and made sure that no one would be threatening her or her child again.
Ziva and Gibbs were on their way out when the lightly injured Israeli spotted the Lieutenant on her bed and tugged her companions sleeve. Ziva had a couple of bruises and a cut on her forearm but she had seen worse. The two of them stopped and Ziva immediately moved towards the room. The sight of a lonely woman in an impersonal hospital room was all too familiar.
"Hello, Lieutenant." Ziva greeted her. "Will they not release you?" She smiled a little but Emma couldn't bring herself to smile back.
"I have nowhere to be, agent David. I'll just stay here and wait for this little troublemaker here to come." The thought of her baby eventually made her smile and she blinked one eye at Ziva. "I wouldn't want to be alone now, anyway." She absentmindedly rubbed her stomach.
Gibbs and Ziva exchanged one glance and instantly knew that they couldn't just leave a marine behind like that. Especially on a Christmas Eve. At that point, Gibbs realized that he had to go to Leyla's place for dinner.
"Ziver, –" He started, but she cut him off.
"You need to go to Leyla and Amira's, Gibbs. They need you tonight. We will be fine on our own." She gestured between Emma Reynolds – who, at that point, looked very surprised - and herself.
But Emma didn't feel good being someones charity case. "Err… Guys?" She hesitantly asked and they turned to face her. "Thanks for deciding this like, over-my-head but I don't want to burden you. I'm fine on my own… or with him or her." She pointed to her belly.
"That's not gonna happen, marine" Gibbs told her matter-of-factly.
"And I am going to need some help preparing dinner." Ziva said and held up her bandaged arm.
I could come up with something more but I'm not sure if I will.
Reviews would be great *Ü*
