"G-Gamzee," A slight tug at the broad male's blanket gently woke the sleeping giant.

"Nhm," Gamzee grunted, pushing some of his hair out of his eyes before glancing around the room. "Wha… What's up, brother?"

A short male stood at the side of Gamzee's bunk, his face almost a feverish red. His unruly black hair hid his eyes slightly though his dorm mate could easily tell that the smaller was shaken. A flash of light poured into the room and Gamzee could see just how frightened his best friend was. He sat up, now fully alert.

"Karbro," His voice was still a husky slur. "What's wrong?"

A crash of thunder followed the bigger male's words and his eyes narrowed as Karkat, his best friend, jumped near three feet in the air and cradled his head. A small whimper passed the scared boy's lips and Gamzee reacted instantly. He pulled the other into bed with him, petting his hair gently.

"Motherfucker, it will all be super chill soon. Stop worrying your mind, bro." He tried rubbing at Karkat's back.

Karkat was, characteristically, never this affection seeking or relatively ever okay with physical contact. To be quite frank, he hated just about anything and everything. The boy's personality was so laced with different phobias and fears that he felt uncomfortable in near any situation. This caused him to build a barrier around himself and other humans. He simply acted as if he hated everything so people would leave him be.

A loud whimper flooded Gamzee's hearing as another flash of lightening showered the room in a bright light. This was one of Karkat's worst fears; astraphobia, the fear of thunder and lightning. Gamzee knew about this fear, for it was a difficult one to hide from your roommate when you live in an area that is prone to rain and storms. The broad male still held the shaking boy, wrapping him in his blanket.

This had become standard procedure to Karkat's biggest fear. When the lithe male couldn't sleep through the storms, which was sadly more frequent than not, he would crawl into bed and feel comfort from his dorm mate and seemingly best friend. Gamzee didn't mind at all. His best friend was all cute and shit when he was clinging to him like this.

Karkat nuzzled his nose into Gamzee's neck, not bothered by the other's thick wavy hair at all. His breath was slowly evening out and a tiny yawn passed his lips. Gamzee, now feeling better about the situation, rolled onto his back, letting his little bro cuddle against him with his head against the clown's bare chest. Karkat's delicate breathing indicated that he was finally asleep again; those little puffs of air were enough to drown out the storm for the other male.

Gamzee woke up a few hours later, the room quiet all except for the soft patter of rain against the window adjacent from his bed and the still ever slight snores of his dorm mate. Karkat was surprisingly still asleep. The grumpy insomniac was usually always up before Gamzee if he could help it. As gently as possible, the broader male shook his bro's shoulder, getting a slight stir.

"Mhnn…" The small charcoal haired male swatted at Gamzee's attempt of trying to wake him. "I…don't," he mumbled into Gamzee's strong chest, "want to get…up," Karkat curled protectively around the seemingly older male.

"Alright, Karbro. Get your chill on, I guess." Gamzee didn't really care; he just didn't want to let his best friend get all flustered and embarrassed when he fully woke up. The clown looked down at the small ebony haired male curled against him and couldn't wipe the wide smile off of his face even if the world depended on it. His roommate was just… really motherfucking cute. Karkat tried really hard to act like he didn't care about anything, but Gamzee knew that wasn't the case. His little bro cared far too much.

Several minutes passed with the broader male just staring at the ceiling, absentmindedly running his fingers through his bedmate's unruly locks of black hair. Gamzee was always amused at how Karkat's hair was predominantly straight but would flip at the ends, especially near his ears. His black hair and pale skin made the small freckles decorating the bridge of his nose and upper cheekbones pop.

Karkat eventually started to shift in his sleep and it made the clown's smile widen all the more. He opened his eyes, such a rich brown that in the right light they looked like a caramel red, and scanned his surroundings. The smaller male looked slightly confused for a split second until the soft patter of rain danced across the forefront of his mind.

Scrambling to his feet, Karkat was sputtering insult after insult. He would never admit that his face was uncomfortably cool now that it wasn't pressed to the broad of his roommate's chest. "You blundering clown fuck! Why didn't you put me back in my bed or something like that?"

Gamzee's lazy smile broadened. This was the cute motherfucker that he enjoyed being around. Karkat was such a feisty little dude. He sat up, running his fingers through his own wavy mess of ebony locks. "I'm all up and sorry, Karbro. You just looked so motherfuckin' cute sleeping all curled against me. And I was didn't want you to wake up and shit if I tried to move you."

A powdery red blush crossed Karkat's face and he stammered slightly, still unable to really take any of Gamzee's compliments without getting flustered. He turned sharply on his heel and grabbed a towel near his bed before storming off to the bathroom connected to their dorm. "Stupid fucking juggalo…"

"Honk." Gamzee wrinkled his nose happily and sat up, moving over to his chest of drawers beside his bed. It had a vanity mirror on top of it, holding an array of different greasepaints and even makeup remover. Karkat hadn't been kidding when saying the tall male was a clown.

Gamzee reached into his bottom drawer, pulling out a pair of tight fit grey jeans with purple splatter paint all over them. He slid them onto his rather slender legs and sighed happily as he enjoyed the feeling of the material against his skin. He grabbed a random band tee from his top drawer, deciding that it didn't really matter what the shirt said. He always felt glorious when he has his face paint on. First things first, he grabbed his brush and attempted to tame the tangled mess of his fair and pushed his bangs out of his face. As skillfully as ever, he applied the white base coat of his face and waited a few seconds for it to set before adding his classic clown grin and highlighting other parts of his face in a soft gray. He let his bangs free from the clip and a soft celebratory 'honk' fell from his lips.

There was a rustling noise coming from the bathroom and Gamzee's lazy smile graced his features once again. Karkat busted free from the restroom, a puff of steam following as he struggled to push his head through the opening of his turtleneck. After a few seconds, Karkat won against his sweater and smoothed it down against his sides and rubbed his hands on his jeans before slipping his feet into his vans.

"I'll see you later, Karbro," Gamzee's smile widened and he slipped his hoodie on as he was about to walk out of the door.

"W-wait," Karkat's voice was soft, almost meek. He grabbed at the right sleeve of the bard's hoodie.

"What is all up and bothering you, bro?" Gamzee's eyebrow arched.

"Th-thanks, for last night I mean…" The smaller had a faint smile on his face before they both parted ways for class.
