Title: Watcher
By: Shuramai
Summary: True love means never being apart...onesided YueSokka.
A/N: It just so happens, this fic was inspired by a quote I read in a book. James Patterson's son had said something about "True Love means never being apart" and that made me write this little fic. (Don't own the quote by the way).
She watches him every night.
And it is painful, and joyous at the same time.
She is glad she gets to see him every night. Sometimes, she speaks to him in his dreams, even if she knows he won't remember.
And sometimes, he speaks to her while awake, even if she can't talk, respond, the way she would like to. She can only descend from her place in the heavens if she has to, if she truly wants to also, but she knows she can't.
In some ways, he has not stopped mourning her.
She may not be human, not anymore, but even she knows that he must move on.
Sadness can be healed by time--and as a spirit, she no longer feels the emotions the way humans do. The sadness she feels is detached, somehow. She has become a spectator, no longer involved.
She watches him every night. Him and the others.
His sister, as she tends the bonfires that are cast in the semi-darkness. The Avatar, who she has spoken to once before, after the time that she could not see him clearly, as they had been in a large city. The Earthbender, who she wonders about sometimes, as she had never seen her before she had become the Moon.
And later, she keeps watching.
As time passes, she sees a failed invasion attempt. She sees as four become eight. She keeps watching, as though she is their guardian and protector, even though she knows she cannot interfere with the lives of mortals.
Eventually, she watches as things unfold underneat her. She sees the ruler of a nation fall. She sees someone rise to power, in the once dreaded country that no one dared to approach.
She sees the way that these people, these eight and more, as they both become closer and drift apart. She sees some marriages, some friendships that were improbable last longer than they are supposed to.
She sees life and death. She sees happiness, sadness, and all the emotions that her people, and other people she has never known, experience.
And she keeps watching him every night.
And as time goes by, she watches as he too, has a family. She watches him, and wonders if he thinks of her when he lifts his head to stare into the heavens.
She still watches.
Even after it is centuries that he has died, she watches. She watches his descendants, and she thinks of him, knowing that he is not of this world anymore.
She has not seen him for a long while.
But that is okay, because when you love someone, they are truly never gone from you.
I will always be with you.
