Maria glared down at her homework, 5 pages on cell meiosis and mitosis. Could you get any more boring? Especially at 10 in the morning. She'd just started sketching an outline for a diagram when she heard the noise. A loud whooshing noise, sort of like a leaf blower met with Darth Vader.
Wind started swirling around, knocking papers to and fro as a blue box faded slowly into reality.
Maria stared in shock for a few moments before the door popped open and a man stuck his head out to look around.
"W-who are you?" Maria demanded, looking around for some sort of weapon.
"Me? I'm the Doctor. Hello." he smiled pleasently, "You're Maria aren't you? Luke's friend! Saw a picture of you when we were stuck at Sarah
Jane's."
"You're the Doctor?" Maria looked shocked.
"Yup. That's me. Well, one of me. You see there's been several 'me's' running about." the Doctor joked.
"Is it safe?" A male called from inside the TARDIS.
"Perfectly, at least for now." the Doctor agreed.
A young dark haired gangly male exited the TARDIS pushed by a tall red haired female.
"Hi, I'm Amy, this is Rory. Sorry to barge in but we need a hiding spot. Just for a bit." Amy introduced herself.
"Er, Maria. Why are you hiding in my kitchen? Is there an invasion?"
"Well, no. Not yet. There will be, or there was. See we're not exactly sure but it's bound to be today and if we go in the TARDIS we MIGHT miss it time wise and if we miss it we can't go back because we didn't. Understand?"
"Not a word." Maria admitted.
"Some sage advice I was given: Wait till he stops for air and just nod." Rory told her.
"Basically we're awaiting an alien invasion that hasn't happened quite yet, "Amy clarified, "But it'll be rather noticeable when it happens so it'll show up on the Telly and we'll be able to go without missing our landing."
"Oh...Sure. And you choose my house? Why?" Maria looked suspicious.
"Martha and Mickey have set up a 'no staying here till we get new appliances' rule, Jack is mad about his coffee, Gwen seems to think I'll corrupt her son, River's in the wrong time, Wilf is out of bounds, I owe Sarah Jane several appliances, Rani's parents are home, and well, let's just say Clyde's holding a grudge about strawberries" the Doctor said.
"So everyone else said no?"
"Pretty much." Amy agreed cheerfully.
"How long are you going to stay?"
"Oh just a bit. A few hours? Maybe more than a few. Maybe quite a bit longer. Definitely no longer than two days, probably by midnight. Maybe later?" the Doctor waved his hands to metaphorically cast aside the question, "We've got bigger questions here!"
"Like what?"
The Doctor looked at her solemnly and seriously before speaking in a tone to show this was the most important question ever: "Do you have fish custard?"
They'd hung around until about 2pm when the telly started yelling about an alien ship appearing over downtown Dallas. They'd taken off quite quickly, Rory shouting something over the Doctor and Amy's glee about 'don't worry about the appliances!'
The next morning Maria was forced to call Luke and Sarah Jane for assistance, or at least an explanation.
"Mum!" Luke called across the attic to get her attention then flipped his cell phone onto speaker phone, "Say that again Maria."
"Yesterday some man in a bowtie calling himself the Doctor appeared in my living room in a giant blue box along with two friends, hid out for ages and now for some God knows reason my toaster is shooting out bright blue bread that tastes of bananas and the microwave is freezing things!"
