Near felt happy when L visited. Like he was in some kind of rush. Every time L looked at him, he felt like time stopped, like he was flying. People said, that was how you felt when you took drugs. Now, Near understood why people got addicted.
Instead of hiding my face
My minds in your eyes

With him, L didn't have to pretend. He didn't have to hide his feelings, to protect himself. He allowed himself to feel. The usual numbness was replaced with love, with happiness. He was himself. All the time he had worked with the taskforce, he had to hide himself, hide his feelings. With Near, he could be himself, be free. And when he looked into those deep dark eyes, he allowed himself to drown.

L seemed like he saw everything. Near liked to watch him when he sat deep in thought, or when he was watching the others. Near had felt L watching him too, sometimes. When he could feel those dark eyes looking at him, he froze, and then continued to play. He didn't want L to watch him, he could discover his feeling for him. And that couldn't happen.
Time isn't on our side
All we have is now
L didn't live forever. He was going to die soon, Near knew that. So one night, he crept into L's room.
For the rest of our lifes
Let's stay up all night
L had seen the little whiteclad boy. He moved in his bed, and Near lay down beside him. You know why I'm here, he stated, and L nodded. He knew. It wasn't fair. Just when he found love, he should die. It was far from fair, far from alright. But you couldn't stop time.

He watched Near. He watched his every move, the way he twirled his hair, his tiny pale hands. His eyes that begged to tell him, to confess his love. And now he had. L wanted to learn everything about Near. What he ate for breakfast, his favourite toy, every curve of his body. He hugged him closer. He wanted to make this night last forever.
All that changes is time

L died. Near had cried, he had screamed. Now, the grief overwhelmed him. He found the shirt in his closet. It still smelled of him. From that night. Near hugged the shirt and fell asleep.

He rembered how he looked, his habits, every piece of his body. He would always remember the detective. He had afterall learned him inside out.
