Matt looked at Near. He smiled, forced. It hurt. It had been four years. Four painful years. Four years of missing him. Near looked like he was in pain He smiled, but his eyes were sad. Matt didn't knew. He didn't knew that the boy had loved him so much. He had loved Near, and it hurt when he left to go look for Mello. But he had thought that Near, now L, had just gone back to his normal life. The way his life had been when Mello was in Whammy's. When Mello had left, Matt rembered, Near and himself had begun a short romantic relationship. It stopped when Matt left to go look for Mello. And, obviously it had hurt the small whitehaired boy even more that he could imagine.

Matt tried to apologize. He tried gifts. He tried everything. He wanted to make this right. They had gone back to being lovers, being boyfriends. He could tell Near loved him, but he could also see the pain in his eyes.

He said "Like it or not it's the way it's gotta be

He said that Matt didn't had to hide anything from him. Matt had told him everything, from that day on.

He knew that Near deserved much more. He deserved someone who could take care of him, live with him, spending every second with him. Matt wanted to do that. So, he moved in with Near. He would make him trust Matt. Make him safe. He wanted to make this right. He knew that Near was the one. He didn't want to ruin that.

Matt remembered when he had told Near about his feelings. It was right after Mello left. They had kissed, and Matt had spend the night with Near. He told Near about his feelings again. That he would never let him go. He would never run away, never leave him on his own. And then he saw the happiness in the little boys eyes. And he realised, no matter what, he could never take back what he did back then. He couldn't re-do it. And then he leaned over and kissed Near.
