"SSTTOOPP!"
Neo Leva bolted out of bed and dashed across the hall of the mansion in mere seconds before bursting into his sister's room. "Isra?! What happened?!"
Isra was sitting upright in her bed, long hair falling over her heaving shoulders. The moonlight from her window created eerie shadows along her floor and walls. Slowly she turned to Neo with eyes wide as saucers and tears threatening to pour.
"Let me guess," he was at her side and rubbing her back, "you had another vision?" He would never get used to the way his adopted sister could see the future in her dreams. Then again, she was the same girl who made him and his friends superheroes, so he was familiar enough with the unnatural. "Want to talk about it?"
She took a couple deep breaths and leaned against him. "This was the worst one yet. Worse than the one that guided me to you and the others, because that was a good vision – and even worse than the one warning me about our trip into ancient Egypt!"
"What did it tell you?"
"So many things at once! I felt myself falling towards the earth, smelled burning metal and saw thick clouds, was surrounded by supervillains…" She sniffled and shut her eyes. "Everything at once, like a video sped up too fast for the mind to comprehend…except for one distinct symbol that kept repeating."
Neo stared into her eyes and found them filled with pain. "What symbol?"
She had to take another deep breath before answering, and her response made him cold all over. "A butterfly with peacock feathers on its wings…flying over a grandiose tower that is falling to the ground…"
"Yikes!"
Tikki flew off the pillow and onto the desktop where Marinette was sitting as she worked on a school assignment and checked her phone. "Did somebody send you a text?"
Her partnered nodded but wore a worried expression. "It came from Larisse. Turns out Isra had a vision about great danger involving a butterfly symbol!"
Tikki gasped. "Hawkmoth!"
Marinette slid the phone over to the Kwami. "Larisse and the others agree. What bothers me are the wings. Apparently, the butterfly has peacock feathers." When she noticed the cloudy look of the Kwami her heartbeat sped up. "You know something about this."
"…Indeed. You see, a long time ago, Master Fu lost the miraculous of the butterfly and the peacock, and has regretted it ever since, which is why he was so cautious with giving out the fox, bee and turtle miraculous."
Marinette understood why he would be afraid of losing such powerful objects, but she had faith in Alya to keep the fox miraculous safe – and she knew whoever Chat Noir had chosen to be the bee and turtle heroes were just as trustworthy. "So, her vision could mean that Hawkmoth has a partner. Someone who found the peacock miraculous." She managed a small smile. "We have the upper hand on those villains. We know what to look out for."
Tikki watched in silence as Marinette texted Adrien. It would be tough since Marinette was only aware of the identities of Chat Noir and Rena Rouge, the latter along with Queen Bee and the recently powered up Carapace having no idea who any of the other heroes were under the masks. Something about the vision was giving her a very, very, very bad feeling.
"Odd," Marinette murmured, "Adrien is having a hard time getting in contact with his brother. I suppose Felix could be busy with school, but…"
Gabriel stood in the secret room atop the Agreste mansion. Nooroo the butterfly Kwami gave a shiver from the tension in the room – they were not alone. Aside from the multitude of white butterflies hovering above them, there was also the peacock miraculous holder standing in front of the small window. Everything about her made the small Kwami afraid, from the dark blue of her long gown and tights, to the deep navy behind her pink irises, to the long feather sticking out of her short blue hair.
"Le Paon."
She held her feathered fan up and took a brave step forward, the train of her gown spreading out like the tail of a peacock. "You speak so formally," she had a way of speaking so quietly and yet so smoothly, alluring and chilling at the same time, "with your only ally?"
"You have no idea how many allies I have."
"I know more about you than you seem to realize, Gabriel." She fanned herself, shooing away a butterfly straying too close. "I know you are eager to fulfil that which can only be achieved by retrieving all seven of the miraculous in our family."
Nooroo longed for his family, the certain set of miraculous he was part of, but he said nothing as Gabriel grit his teeth. "I am so close. If I can just keep the heroes from interfering-"
"Hard not to interfere when akumas are attacking them." She took another step towards him. "I would be more concerned with the young man who knows I exist and your identity."
"Felix?" He scoffed. "Forget it. The poor boy has cut off communications. He will be nothing more than a memory by the time we are finished."
"Indeed," she rested her fan under his chin and lifted it ever so slightly, bringing them eye to eye, "as soon as you have the rest of the miraculous, I will happily lend you mine, so you can change the world."
He glanced away at the mention of the world. "I just want her back…"
Le Paon cooed. "You shall have your lost love back at your side in a matter of days. Our plan is about to set in motion the final stage of our work. Stick with me, Hawkmoth," she drew so close Nooroo could swear he smelled her floral perfume under the costume, "and you will have your family whole again."
"…Even Felix?"
Her smile was sharp like a beak. "Should he not interfere too far with our plans, then yes, even Felix will be drawn back into your life."
Sorry this story vanished for a bit. I was going through with a few minor edits and can finally start putting the chapters up again. Again, I have changed Damma's identity from the Demon Kwami to the Djinn Kwami due to personal beliefs. Aside from that, and a lack of end comments from myself, next to nothing is going to change.
Thank you for your patience, and until next time!
