Summary:
Ritsuka had a lot of photographs,
but only one favourite. What if he replaced it?

Photograph

"A photograph can be an instant of life captured for eternity
that will never cease looking back at you."
- Brigitte Bardot

A separate, secluded room, shrouded in darkness. Few furnishings remained, only due to his mother's frantic pleading that Seimei would be coming back for them. His father had shaken his head and calmly handed his mother her pills.

Ritsuka knew his mother was wrong, he wouldn't come back. Seimei was dead, after all…

Luckily for him, Ritsuka still had his memories of Seimei, or what remained of them, to look back on. If nothing else, he still had that one photograph. It held a place of honour in his room, at the foremost spot on his shelf.

That shelf, just above his computer desk, held pictures that Ritsuka had taken. The photographs on that particular shelf were only of his favourite people, so he felt it was only natural that Seimei take the most prominent spot…

After seeing Seimei again, inside the Seven Moons Academy, Ritsuka was shaken, he didn't feel like doing anything. What his brother had done…

It was frightening.

He had returned home and now stood silently in his room, looking up on that one special shelf. His tail swished back and forth in time with the the ticking of the clock hanging on his wall.

Seimei's smiling face seemed to grab his attention to it, as if the photograph itself was calling out, "Look at me, look at me, look only at me…"

Ritsuka shuddered and stepped forward, closer to the shelf. On his wall, a small board with photographs, memories, forced upon it by thick bands of ribbon, was one photograph not of Seimei.

It was a picture of Soubi, on the day they had first met. The man's eyes were closed peacefully, a leaf, browned by Autumn, held in on hand and resting just before his mouth, the wind gently blowing through his hair.

Ritsuka looked back and forth between the two pictures for quite some time...

As Ritsuka left the room, anyone could have noticed a subtle change. Upon that special shelf, where Ritsuka's most dearly held people smiled brightly, Seimei's photograph was no longer in the center, pushed forward, above all the others.

Seimei was farther to the back, and in his place, now in a gold painted frame, was Soubi.

Ritsuka wondered absently if Soubi would notice the difference…

Probably.
