From underneath the trees, we watch the sky. Confusing stars for satellites. I never dreamed that you'd be mine. But here were are …we're here tonight …
Ally sang the lyrics out loud. It fit well with the atmosphere. For once she wasn't worrying about the song they have to write. Or her schoolwork that was due. She was just lying there, on her flat roof, forgetting about the world. Except for her world was right next to her. Austin was her world and she was his. They are best friends in love and they knew it. They needed somewhere to clear their heads and focus on each other. And that's what this was.
Austin tightened his grip on Ally's hand as they continued to look at the vast sky above them. A velvet color, with stars dotting it like white paint splatters on a dark piece of paper. It almost didn't seem real, because of how peaceful it is.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Ally nearly whispered.
"Yeah … I never knew that there were this many stars," He closed his eyes and breathed in the cool, autumn air.
"The light from the city drowns out the sky a lot …" Ally answered. "But this is my life, every night. I can come up here and know things are going to be okay,"
This made Austin curious. "Why wouldn't things be okay?"
Ally felt tears build up in her eyes. "Stress, health, the violence of the world … Do you think she's watching me Austin?" Her voice was watery and Austin knew she was crying. So he held her.
Her little sister was stillborn and Ally cried about it now and then. She said it should've been her, and that an innocent little girl should've lived a longer life. He wishes she didn't say that. He doesn't know where he would be without her.
"She is... she's your guardian angel." He moved closer so he could almost feel her heart beat against hers. "And you're my angel…"
A tear rolled down her cheek but she smiled through it. "Oh look Austin!"
They looked up and saw a comet shot through the air. Like lightning, gone before it even started.
"Are you going to make a wish?" Austin asked. She buried her head into his chest and shook her head.
"No, I have everything I need."
"Me too …" Austin whispered.
"Austin?"
"Hmm?"
"How many stars do you think are out there?"
He paused to ponder on the question. "It's a big galaxy, one of many. And we are just one of the trillion stars out there …"
"We live on a planet, Austin, not a star."
"But these stars still light up the world, even if some aren't really stars."
She leaned up and kissed him, he kissed her back with passion. There was no need to let this moment escape them. They needed somewhere to clear their heads and focus on each other. And that's what this was. It was truly love.
And as we lie beneath the stars, we realize how small we are. If they can love, like you and me, imagine what the world could be.
Just a little Auslly drabble, I guess :) Hope you liked it! The song lyrics are from the song, "If Everyone Cared" by NickelBack.
