Maria stared out the window at the beautiful planet that people called Earth. It was truly beautiful. One day she wanted to go there but it had a very low chance of happening because of her illness. She had NIDS (Neuro immune deficiency syndrome) which meant that her immune system didn't work properly so a small thing such as a cold could kill her. She had been sent to live in space with her grandad a long time ago when she was 2, she was now 11 and beginning to get bored, wishing for a friend to play with as she got very lonely. However, her one main comfort was that beautiful big window overlooking Earth that she could stare out of all day, and often did.
So, she stood there staring out of that window wondering about Earth and its inhabitants when her grandfather put a hand on her shoulder. Maria jumped.
"Oh, hello grandpa it's nice to see you. You're usually always working!"
"Yes yes my dear and it has all payed off! Come with me and I will show you. He will make a good friend for you." Replied her grandfather excitedly who grabbed her hand and started jogging down the hall.
"Oh grandpa be careful; you wouldn't want to trip would you?" Said Maria.
"Never dear! Nothing could stop me now!" Yelled her grandfather.
Maria started to get a big concerned and almost tripped over herself.
"Have a nice trip?" Called one of the scientists laughing.
Maria couldn't help but smile, everyone was so nice here and even though she didn't have a friend, she would always have people to look after her.
Gerald took Maria down numerous hallways until they came to his main working room where a strange capsule was that Maria had never seen before.
"This my dear, is project Shadow! Isn't he wonderful!" Exclaimed her grandfather making a grand gesture towards the capsule.
Maria looked confused and asked her grandfather what he meant.
"Inside this capsule, is the ultimate lifeform, and it's just waiting to wake up! It will be tomorrow so you had better get some rest." Said Gerald smiling at her.
Maria gazed at this capsule in wonder and imagined what he would be like. It was these same thoughts that haunted her while she was trying to sleep that night.
'What if he doesn't like me? What if he's evil?' Maria thought and eventually decided to take a wander as she wouldn't get caught because her grandad had finished the project and he would catch up on sleep now.
