Chapter 1
Each other were all they had, one was never to be seen without the other. Both were equally hated, despised, cursed and spat at by a village that never wanted them. Who else were they to turn to but each other, when one would even spare them the time of day unless it was to be exiled, punished and ridiculed for no apparent reason. For reasons they couldn't understand. Alone they were. Alone they shall stay. These were the demon twins.
Konoha Ally
Naruto stood defensively in front of his brother Nao growling as he stared at the angry mob that formed in front of them keeping them trapped and from escaping.
"Leave him alone!".
Naruto the older of the two didn't want his brother to be hurt by these people that tormented them and called them horrible things that he couldn't understand. It made no sense to either of them why they were treated so bad. Every single day when they looked at each other they saw nothing out of the ordinary except the identical markings on their cheeks. It didn't make any sense as to why they were always getting picked on and beat up. People in the village looked much freakier than they did and no one bothered them so why them.
"Shut up you demon Shit"
A plain looking dark eyed man from the group said kicking the small child into his twin knocking them both over. The two gasped out in pain biting their lips trying to bare it as they fell hard onto the ground. Naruto huddled over his brother holding him close against his chest trying to protect him from the beatings that started up as soon as the first kick happened like a gun being shot in a race signaling the runners to begin. Both boys were kicked and beaten viciously barely able to hold onto each other, grasping for comfort. A small cry was heard as Nao was kicked away from his brother crashing into the hard wall behind them. Naruto screamed weakly trying to grip his brother's hand. "NAO!" Naruto cried trying to grip his hand however he was pushed back forcefully stumbling back once again.
"Oh look the demons are trying to comfort each other" the same man smirked with a nasty grin.
The group laughed cruelly slamming their foot against Naruto head repeatedly. He cried out in pain in response gritting his teeth not giving up trying to reach his screaming brother who was suffering the worst of it being hit with sticks and other weapons that the mob could find. Naruto taking the beatings as best as he could finally grasped his brother hand tightly not letting go no matter what. They would never be separated again ever. This enraged the crowd and they continued to beat the already broken and bleeding children until they fell unconscious hoping they died. What was left after were two small boys lying in a dark dirty alley unconscious, hands still linked tightly bloody, bruised and most likely mentally damaged beyond repair. Anbu found them the next morning swiftly delivering them to the hospital. The staff tried to separate the boys but when they did the older of the two woke up screaming, gripping tighter against his brother, pulling him close to himself. Every time someone got close to the boys Naruto would snap growling, his eyes flickering from red to blue his body stiffening in defense mode.
The Hokage arrived at the scene to the hysterical frightened child a grim expression on his face and ordered the staff to let them remain. He hated what the villagers have done with the Yondaime legacies.
"Naruto" the Sandaime spoke up. The blond looked up at the familiar face of the old man tears streaming down his cheeks in sadness, fear and anger.
"Why do they do this to us jiji what have we done to deserve this?" the small child asked his voice cracking his blue eyes piercing into the older man's soul.
He felt his heart break into a million pieces as he looked into those eyes that would longer know the innocence of a child. The old man couldn't tell him the real reason why they were hated. Rather than lying to the boy he made an attempt to change the subject.
"Why don't you let the nurses clean up you and Nao?"
"NO! They are going to hurt us jiji! I have to protect Nao he is all I got! Please don't take him away from me. I couldn't bare to live without him. The boy was hysterical as he thought he was going to be separated from his twin again. "
"Calm down Naruto I won't separate you" he said softly.
"All you have to do is hold still and protect Nao as they clean your wounds and dress them"
"Promise?"
He nodded and smiled sincerely, he turned his head and gave a sharp look at the nurse when Naruto looked away. It meant no funny business. The nurse gulped and nodded quickly attending to the children while the hokage watched his thoughts slowly drifting to the past. It was when he brought the twins to the council after the Kyuubi attack. As soon as the Hokage told them of how the fox was sealed into both boys the council decided they wanted one killed and the other used as weapon. Something he would not allow. He was able to convince the Council to let them live by telling him if one dies the other will automatically die as the seals were linked together and killing one would sever the other. Then there would be no weapon at all. 'Wouldn't two weapons be better one?' Naruto had five tails sealed into him while Nao had four. The nine tails had to be split into two as it was too powerful to seal into one. He also declared not to reveal the boys status as jinchurikis to anyone or it was punishable by death. In order to tell the babies apart he pierced each of their ears with an earring in their ear. Naruto had a red ruby in his right ear and Nao had a blue sapphire in his left ear. He was brought out of his thoughts when the nurse announced she was finished. He looked at the boys one awake the other nestled asleep. It took another hour until Naruto finally went to sleep. He waited until the conscious blonde fell asleep before taking his leave. After all he had much paperwork to do and a village to run. He took one last glance at the twins snuggled closely against each other, hands linked tightly between their chest and left.
6 years later
The Twins now twelve arrived into class taking their usual seats, hands linked as always when in public. They walked over towards the back row last two seats on the left and sat. This was a normal occurrence for the two. They ignored everyone and the stares they got when arriving. They rarely spoke to anyone but each other opting to keep to themselves. The rest of the class except for a select few (that just didn't care) viewed them to be snobby and self-centered. The more vocal of the two was Naruto as he was the one to relay the answers to their teacher Iruka when asked. Nao would whisper the answer in his ear and he would say it aloud. Iruka didn't even bother to question it anymore he just accepted it. He remembered the first time they done that and he asked Nao to speak up instead he got the coldest stare and the most chilling killing intent he had ever felt and he just left it alone at that not wanting to provoke either one to wrath.
"Ugh those two are so annoying always keeping to themselves and thinking they are too good to talk to us. And why must they hold hands!? Aren't they a little too old for that? Um, and real ninjas certainly don't hold hands. Those wannabes." Sakura a pink haired female vocalized angrily to anyone who would listen.
"Yeah!" agreed a scruffy kid name Kiba with a dog hiding under his hood. Only his snout peeking out. He would bark in agreement to anything his master said. The two blonde boys shifted closer to the other and began whispering to each other giggling softly, their laughter sounding almost like soft tinkering bells.
"Her voice sounds like scraping nails on a board" Nao said.
"Yeah and Kiba looks as ugly as that dog." Naruto laughed
Nao couldn't help but smirk. "Common lets not insult the dog like that"
"WHAT'S SO FUNNY?" Sakura screamed fuming.
Both as if on cue glanced at her eyes frozen like a frigid lake all smiles erased as if never there. Smalls amounts of Killer intent leaked from the two. She gasped softly in fear shifting in her seat nervously along with the rest of the class. Akamaru whimpered and huddled back into safety of his master hood. Feeling his fear made him uneasy. Iruka made his entrance walking in and the twins attention shifted at the front of the room killer intent disappearing no traces of it ever being there.
"Good morning class" Iruka chirped brightly beginning the lesson for the day, not noticing the earlier tension between his students.
"As you all know the test to become official genin will be in three days. I hope everyone has be practicing and improving on their techniques and studying hard for the written portion."
The class perked at that, many excited and slightly nervous about the exam all wishing to pass. The twins were ready and were prepared not the least bit nervous. They practiced with each other day and night whenever they could until exhaustion. Naruto hated studying but Nao forced him to keep up on his studies and Naruto pushed Nao to his limits knowing his brother hated physical exertion in such a way. They complimented and helped each other. They were more than prepared. The skills they had acquired were kept between them hidden and never to be told or bragged about, the bare minimum only being done when neccesary. The twins kept to themselves because no one really took the chance to get to know them and they were afraid of letting outsiders in. They were always ignored, beaten or teased. Who could they trust but each other? Everyone was a potential enemy. Especially Sasuke the last Uchiha in the village. They weren't sure if he thought they wouldn't notice the piercing stares he gave them. Just because they ignored it didn't mean they couldn't feel it. It gave them shivers and the creeps. The way his eyes roamed them up and down each time they walked past him. They always gripped hands tighter. They tried glaring at him and leaking killer intent to warn him to back off but he just smirked and turned away. It was eerie. He was one of the few that frightened them and they wouldn't ever trust.
During lunch the boys made their way to their usual swing hanging from a large tree, watching the outsiders for a while laugh and talk with each other leaving them to their own accord. Nao spread out a blanket and large bento he made unsealing them from a scroll. He was the gentler and most responsible out of the two despite what anyone thought and had a knack for cooking, cleaning, and sewing. Naruto was rougher, messy, carefree, and lazy. He was the muscle of the pair and was very protective of his brother. He hated for him to get hurt outside of training. Naruto suddenly frowned at the display of food."Nao-chan you didn't make ramen!" the blond whined to his brother with puppy eyes.
"Naru your unhealthy obsession with ramen is ridiculous you need to eat healthy! I don't even know why Jiji had to give you that bowl of ramen and spoil your appetite for dinner the other day." Nao scolded gently.
Naruto pouted and shrugged digging into his bento smiling at the delicious flavors that melted against his tongue. The identical blond just sighed softly eating slower and neater than his brother that was currently scarfing down his food in a very unappealing way. Something even he couldn't correct. No matter what they were doing or how laid back they looked their guard was always up. The presence of the Hyuuga Heiress was felt strongly, something that has been reoccurring for the past two weeks. She never did anything just stood in the same spot watching from afar. It was chilling and they wanted to find out what was up. Nao looked at his brother and nodded. After much discussing for the past few days they decided to invite her over to see what she wanted.
"Hey Hyuuga!" Naruto shouted gaining attention from the other students.
The girl came out from her hiding spot with a squeak looking as shocked as everyone else. Fear took over her and she trembled. The twins spoke to no one. Why were they calling her over? Sure she watched them a lot but did they really notice? Naruto beckoned her over and she slowly made her way to the twins all eyes on her, following her even as she stood in front of them. Nao glanced sharply at the other students and they all looked away a few still peaking every now and then.
"What do you want from us." Nao spoke low his eyes cold and calculating now trained on the Hyuuga.
Hinata was woken up out of her shock registering the question in her mind. She realized this is the first time she had ever heard Nao's voice. It was identical to Naruto's though held a softer tone and he was more soft spoken however his words cut through you like glass when he wanted it too. Hinata paled at being caught and looked down avoiding the cold gaze twiddling her fingers.
"W-well I-I just..."
She fumbled with her words not sure what she wanted all she knew was she had a peculiar interest in the twins and wanted to get to know them better.
"You were spying on us and trying to find our weakness! You want to put an attempt on our lives!" Nao accused. His voice barely raised a decibel but it sounded like he was shouting at her. Naruto slipped in front of his brother linking his hands with him automatically his cold eyes piercing her as well. It sounded farfetched that they would think such a thing but after all they have been through it was the only thought. Hinata backed up a little at the accusation shocked once again at their now hostile exterior.
"N-no" she gasped out paralyzed with fear feeling killing intent leak from the two, sinking to her knees.
"I-I just wanted to be y-your f-friend."
"Why now?" Naruto countered.
"Why not before? You knew us since last year. We've always been around and you've never approached us. Why now? He repeated.
"You are just like the others" Nao said gripping his brother's hand tighter.
"That's not true!" she bit out feeling anger at their words.
"I was t-too afraid to approach you two because I thought you wouldn't like me. I-I just started working up the courage to talk to you guys. I don't think it's right how the others treat you and I don't want to be that way or for you to think that I'm that way!"
Her anger caused her stuttering to halt slightly if only for a few seconds. The dark haired girl features softened as she looked down. She knew they would most likely reject her but as least she knew she tried. She wanted to be their friends and get to know them. She was just a little intimidated.
"Every time I f-finally built the c-courage to finally come to you I s-suddenly lost the w-will. I-it seems that at the end my efforts goes to waste as it suddenly s-slips away and I'm left c-cursing myself at my own behavior"
It was the very thing that caused her father to view her as weak. Both boys were surprised at the tear that slid down her cheek. She quickly brushed it away angry at herself.
Iruka came out signaling that it was time to come in. Hinata quickly stood up and shuffled back inside feeling like the twins hated her especially for showing weakness in front of them. Rather it was quite the opposite. The twins were actually considering maybe just once letting her in. They never had anyone get emotional over them. It was peculiar and foreign. It was very risky to let her in and it very well could end in them being betrayed. But it was small risk they decided to take. It wouldn't hurt to have a friend. They were breaking their own rules for this one girl. No outsiders ever and they were inviting an outsider to their circle. While in class the identical blonds whispered between them themselves discussing the situation glancing at the Hyuuga every now and then. She was sitting quietly in a corner next to an equally quiet Aburame. He rarely spoke unless spoken to much like the twins.
When class was over they approached heiress and whispered something into her ears, her eyes widened and she blushed nodding. The boys left but not before Nao discreetly slipped a piece of paper in her hand. Hinata replayed Nao words back in her mind.
"Meet us at our home in an hour. We have decided to give you a chance. But only one."
She clutched the paper with their address on it going home too happy to notice the shocked stares trailing her and one angry pair of eyes that watched as she left the classroom.
