A/N: So this was originally written as part of my story A Fight to Remember but there was so much going on in that story that I felt this part wasn't needed. It is, however, a nice little scene.
So... enjoy this little One-shot.

Derek's POV
In front of me was a window. Behind the window was two rows of newborn babies resting in their little cribs. And one of them was mine. Her tiny fist jerked as she yawned and opened her eyes as little slits, the artificial light not helping any.
"Hey," a voice interrupted and I turned toward it. Karev. "Mer's awake," he said.
Air escaped me as I released the tension inside. She was awake. She was going to be fine. I walked into the room, nodding to the nurse in pink scrubs. "I'm going to-" I thumbed to the door.
"Of course," she said.
I scooped up the tiny baby. Ellis. She was bigger than Bailey when she was born by a couple ounces, but he'd been longer, and fussier. The nurse handed me a soft pink blanket which I wrapped her in.
Ellis seemed to fit perfectly along my forearm as I held her to my chest. After she'd been delivered, it'd been a race to get Meredith to the hospital to prevent hypovolemic shock. But she'd held on long enough for Robbins and Kepner to stop the hemorraging. I always knew she would. I just... I couldn't watch. I couldn't stand the helplessness, the fear. So I stayed with Ellis while Karev checked her over, patting me on the back when her Apgar came back as excellent.
"Ready to see mommy?" I asked Ellis as we rode the elevator up to recovery.
She made a sucking sound, her cheeks puffing with the movement.
"I think so... you're probably hungry..."
A little trail of drool came down the corner of her mouth, and she squinted at me, her forhead wrinkling. Yes, she certainly was.
We walked down the hall to my wife's room, and I stopped for a second before I entered, just to watch Meredith.
She hadn't seen me yet, and was staring out her window with a sleepy thoughtful expression on her face. Like the world stopped and nothing mattered except for what was in front of her.
"Hi," I said, stepping into the room.
She turned slowly, but when her gaze landed on Ellis she beamed. "Hi," she said.
"Someone wants to meet you," I brought Ellis up to the bed as Meredith sat up and held out her arms to take her daughter. I watched as she checked all her fingers and toes and splayed her hand across Ellis' chest and cooed. Meredith's eyes watered and I wiped her tears with my thumb.
"We had a baby," she said, looking up at me.
"Mm-hmm." I said, sitting on the bed, stroking Ellis' little curl of hair, amazed at the softness of it.
"I was so scared... I thought I might die," she confessed, "but I knew I couldn't, because... I had you. You were there, the whole time, I just, I..." she swallowed back a sob. "We had a baby, Derek."
"Yeah..." I said as I kissed her on the cheek. We sat together for a long time as Ellis nursed, the two of us full of joy and gratefulness.
