Hello! It's me again! I thought of yet another new story!

It's not my fault! My dad got me Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals: Crystal Bearers for my birthday and I immediatly got inspiration.

So here it is!

Layne's Stone

Chapter 0

A flash of light illuminated the cavern briefly. The sound of rattling chains was drowned out by the rocks falling from the out cropping above the prisoner's head. A protective barrier kept the prisoner from being harmed by the rock fall.

The silence was broken by the sound of breathing and the slight chime of the crystals. The Crystal Gate glowed softly even as the flash died down. The glow was barely enough to illuminate the space directly in front of the gate.

The sound of heavy breathing silenced for a moment before grunts of effort were heard. The prisoner moved into a more upright position to lessen the pressure of the chains. This required an unusual amount of the prisoner's physical energy.

"You won't escape those bonds, Your Majesty."

The prisoner looked up to see a figure enter the chamber. It was a man of average height. He had a bluish-gray tinge to his skin, and completely black eyes. His grey scarf covered almost his entire head. The only things visible were his eyes and his long, black hair. He wore a black assassin's cloak over his black stealth suit.

"Those bonds held your mother's power," he said. "They can contain yours, too."

The man held a ball of fire in his hand illuminating the cavern.

The light was reflected by the crystals that composed most of the cavern. The prisoner's blonde hair seemed to shine with an unearthly halo as she looked up. Her green eyes shone with boredom at the man's taunts.

"Why do you address me with such respect, Xethrath?" she asked. "I am of no royal blood. I am the daughter of a former Royal Knight and a star-singer."

"Ah…" Xethrath chuckled. "But that, my dear queen, is where you are wrong."

The girl looked up with mild interest. She was intrigued at the thought that she was suddenly a captive queen instead of a star-singer being held for her power.

"You see, Xethrath continued, "your being is split, as you well know, between Purity and Corruption. Your sister, Corruption, has gone to the capital posing as the whole. The people have revered her for surviving the havoc that wrecked your old home. They have made her the queen, Purity."

Purity shook her head. "Then everything is going according to Mother's plan. The people can't be ignorant forever."

Xethrath laughed. "We shall see." And he was gone.

Everything was silent for a moment. Then Purity sighed.

"I hope you know what you're doing, Mother," she said looking at the Crystal Gate. "For everyone's sake."
