Dana was always in a bind when it came to deciding how to deal with these situations. Not that she was always breaking up with Terry, it seemed they were always taking breaks. He was always busy with his job and she understood that he was the dedicated type but she felt that she was always taking the backseat. She figured she would try to see the way should approach the situation again.
"Terry I feel as if I am not a factor in your world anymore...I feel as if someone else would be a better fit..."
She stopped again looking at her locker as she thought about an idea she has come across before. Someone being a better fit. She didn't always have this inner conflict in her mind, in fact the one thing that triggered this was the newly formed close friendship that Terry had formed with Max. It seemed that whenever she would walk past them they would change the subject that they were talking about. She knew that she would never think that they were having an relationship behind her back but then again she would would be worried that she was being the other woman and this would often make her upset. She felt guilty for feeling that he should be spending all time with her not laughing with Max from time to time; But this time she was done feeling guilty, she loved him as a friend, no longer as a lover. She took a deep breath and looked up at a mirror she had in her locker and thought she would try to get her thoughts together again.
"Terry, I don't feel like I am the one you need to be with. I know we have taken plenty of breaks but I feel this should be our final break. I love you and I will continue to support you in everything you do but I feel that there is another woman this is more suited to be your girlfriend. I know it may be hard to hear but I will always be by your side."
She closed the locker and was met with the very person she was going to confront. His icy blue eyes seemed warmer than they looked. He came in close to her and embraced her in a hug that was not of the romantic nature but of comfort and friendship. His lips parted and let out two comforting words that gave Dana closure.
"Thank you..."
"You're not upset?"
"As long as you are happy, I am happy"
"Thank you for setting me free"
"...Thanks for making it seem like a prison..."
"oh sorry..."
"It's okay you standing on my foot this whole time has been a prison"
"Oh quiet you dreg"
With that they separated and walked in their separate directions knowing that a new friendship has formed and no matter what they will always have a shoulder to lean on.
