"Yoh!"
Anna screamed at her fiance. Yoh shivered at the thought that he might get hit again today. Oh wait, scratch that - he's gonna get hit today.
"Yes Anna?"
"You're late. You should've been here half an hour ago."
"About that... I got a little sidetracked."
Yoh placed the groceries on the counter, his head lowered down. His hair is messier than usual and Anna didn't fail to notice.
"What happened?" Anna said nonchalantly, her arms crossed.
"Uhh, it's nothing really. Just go and watch tv or something while I prepare dinner. I'll call you when I'm done."
"You're going to tell me what happened, right now, Yoh." She warned him.
"Anna, can't I tell you after we eat? Aren't you starving? Cause I'm starving." Yoh said in a nervous tone. But Anna was not having any of it.
"Right now, Yoh" She emphasized on the 'right now' part. Yoh could only sigh.
"Okay, okay" He said as he raised his hands up in defeat.
He pulls out a chair and motions Anna to sit down.
"I went out of the grocery after getting the stuff..."
"Of course you had to get out of the grocery.." She interrupted him.
"Yeah, well, anyway. So I went out of the grocery and I slipped that's why I got this gash on my forehead."
He shows her the wound under his bangs.
"You slipped?" Anna's skepticism kicked in. "You're lying."
"No, I-I'm not!" He stuttered a bit.
She slams both her hands on the table angrily. Yoh stiffened up.
"I want the truth, Yoh."
He gulped. She knows him more than anyone and she's a force to be reckoned with.
"I'm waiting, Yoh." She said impatiently.
"I'm not lying, Anna. I really slipped. It was reckless of me, I know. But in my defense, I am kinda woozy since this morning and I just didn't want to worry you. I thought it would go away on its own. I'm sorry, okay?"
Anna lifted her right hand from the table and aimed for Yoh.
Get ready for the impact. He thought to himself as he closed his eyes, waiting for the searing pain to come. But it didn't come. All he felt was her warm hand on his forehead.
"You have a slight fever." She said softly. "You are such an idiot Yoh."
"I'm sorry."
"Go upstairs." She commanded.
"But what about dinner?"
"Don't worry about it."
"Are you sure?"
"Are you saying that I'm not capable of cooking, Yoh?"
"No! That's not what I mean!"
"Then go upstairs."
"If you say so. Call me if you need anything."
When Yoh reached his room, he immediately slid in his futon and closed his eyes.
He felt something wet and cold on his forehead. He wanted to open his eyes but he felt so tired that he decided to just doze off. Next thing he knew, it was morning. He sits up and drinks a glass of water by his futon. He stands up slowly and checks out his wound and found it patched up. He smiled.
Downstairs, he found Anna preparing breakfast.
"Good morning." He greeted.
"Are you feeling better?" She asked without looking at his direction.
"I feel great!"
"Good. Sit down."
"Thanks."
She just nodded in response.
"Just rest for today."
"But I'm okay, really!" He insisted. Anna never lets him skip training. Ever.
"You will resume your regular training tomorrow."
"But... "
"If you don't stop whining about this Yoh, I will add 500 more push-ups for tomorrow."
"Right. Okay. Whatever you say, Anna."
Anna sat on the couch to watch her favorite show.
Alright, it's now or never.
Yoh sits beside Anna and then lies down on her lap. She didn't flinch or pushed him away.
"I love you" Yoh admitted, in an almost inaudible voice.
Anna placed her free hand on Yoh's hair and fondled with it. "Yeah, me too."
