drapetomania

(n). an overwhelming urge to run away.

There was a little girl, sitting by her window sill, watching the garden at 9 o'clock in the night. She watched and watched for fourteen years, awaiting the return of her doctor. Her raggedy doctor. This is her story.

Amelia Pond was done with dreary Leadworth. She wanted adventure, excitement and danger. She wasn't born for this small town in England.

She knew from a very young age that she was meant for bigger and better things. It was a feeling she couldn't shake off until her suspicions were confirmed one night when she was seven.

Something or better yet, someone, crashed into her garden and changed her life forever. She finally knew she had to get out. Running upstairs as fast as her legs could take and packed a small suitcase. She came back downstairs, placing herself on top of her suitcase and waiting. Ten minutes passed, then an hour, then the whole night. She awoke in the morning, knowing that he would come back tonight for sure.

And so she waited.

Finally when he came back (twelve years late), she knew that she would leave, she could finally run away and be free. But alas he left her alone again for two more years.

Fourteen years of waiting led up to the adventure of a lifetime. Amelia Pond ran away and discovered the stars. No longer being Amelia, but Amy. for she was older, brighter and Amelia sounded like a name from a fairy tale. She made friends and foes, fought pirates, aliens, angels and so, so much more.

As the years went by, she grew older. more mature and was losing some sense of her adventure. She still wanted to fight, but she also wanted to settle down and start something everlasting with Rory. To be normal for once.

Her fairy tale adventures came to end when she visited to New York. She left behind her dearest friend, the danger and the rare, beautiful explorations. She ran away from that and started a new life in New York.

Someone once told her that she had the case of drapetomania. The urge of wanting to run away. Something, she has been doing since she was seven, running away from monsters. Real and the ones she was fighting inside her.

She finally knew what her choice was all along. After the countless life threatening situations and the struggle of choosing between what was right and wrong.

She stared at Rory and Anthony who were currently on the floor on the living room, drawing spaceships and dinosaurs. This was permanent. This is what she wanted.

Amy Pond was done running away.

Amelia Jessica Williams was staying.
