Mai wasn't the sappy kind. She wasn't the kind to sit back and do nothing either, she wasn't the one to act like everything was revolved around her, and she wasn't the one to cause any trouble. Her main goal in life was to remain invisible. But that was impossible to Zuko, everything she did to remain inviasble, he always saw. Which is why she was particularly cautious about tonight. Every night actually, for a month and she still hadn't told him. She couldn't tell him just yet. There were always council's to attend, peace tours, meetings with the avatar, celebrations, festival upon festivals, everything had kept him away from her, which she didn't mind. She didn't mind at all, she didn't like attention, but she knew, she knew she had to tell him. She was still dressed in her clothes, the clothes that allowed her to move freely as she practiced fire bending, but more importantly, they hid her growing abdomen. She paced the pond in the court yard of the fire kingdom courtyard. She looked inside the pond, her careless expression actually causing her to smile, reminding her who she was. She was MAI, she didn't care.

"I'm pregnant" She said, looking at the careless reflection. "I have your child, and that's that. Just thought you'd like to know and all, so you don't slip some fat joke with me" She looked at the increasing smile, as she thought of more approaches "So if I told you we were having a child, what would you say?" she threw a rock into the pond "Oh yeah! Zuko, by the way, I'm with child, goodnight" She threw another pebble her confidence growing with volume "I'm pregnant and goodnight Fire Lord Zuko"

"You'd say goodnight to me?" She heard a manly voice from behind her, and lost her balance, almost falling into the pond when she felt a hand on her wrist, pulling her up and bumping into her husband, causing them to touch as she looked his golden orange eyes, he was smiling brilliantly and his usually tied up hair was now messy like he was traveling with the avatar again, how she saw him in the jail at Boiling Rock, and she remembered the Zuko she'd loved. She placed a hand on his chest and looked up at him, biting her lip.

"Of course I would" She rose her chin up, closing her eyes.

"Really?" Zuko said catching her bluff

"I'd go and sleep in my own chambers"

"Would you now?" Zuko said teasing her, picking her up and kissing her gently and spinning her around in the air. Mai usually wasn't comfortable but for once she spoke her mind

"So….I'm pregnant"

"I know" Zuko said, his loyal eyes met with hers as they touched foreheads

"Are you angry"

"No" He said simply "I'm extremely happy" He was smiling at her "But I'm tired"

"You should be" Mai said, guiding his hand and leaving the courtyard "You've been away for such a long time"

"I couldn't stop thinking about you Mai" Zuko said "And now it'll be even harder"

"Good" Mai said "I like it when you think about me"

"And our child"

"And our baby" Mai said, it sounded weird coming out of her, but she loved the way Zuko smiled wider, his hands on her hips as they entered the palace, climbing into their bed, Zuko didn't even bother to take off his armor, Mai undid his metal parts daintily and put them aside, nuzzling into his chest as he kissed her hair, rubbing it softly, until she was asleep. The exhausted Zuko started to chuckle, laughing to himself

"Oh yeah! I'm going to be a father! Good night" He chuckled once more as he finally went to sleep
